I am thinking of buying Turbotax software to help my with my 2006 taxes, but I heard it can be a ripoff because you have to pay both for the software AND to file the information electronically. So, say I buy the software and use it to figure out all my deductions: can I transfer that information to paper forms and just mail them in? I am not in any rush to get a refund. |

You don't even need to transfer the data. TT will let you print out your return and mail it in the old fashioned way.
If you're feeling really "cheap," save $15.00 and get Tax Cut instead. |

Sure you can! It fills out all the forms for you and you can just print it. No need to "transfer" the information. |

If you're really cheap, use one of the online tax prep sites (TT, TaxCut by HRBlock), put your info in there, then copy the results onto paper and send it in. The sites don't make you pay until you want a printout via .pdf or you want to efile.
But I guess I'd rather go through the process of paying them and efiling the business. I mean, it's only fair to pay because these companies spend the money to develop software year after year to keep up w/ the funny business our US government imposes at the last minute, and the IRS having to issue edicts to account for them. At least we, the befuddled taxpayer, shouldn't have to keep up w/ every little change, like the phone tax credit.
If you have a beef, it shouldn't be the software companies and the IRS approved efiling centers trying to provide a service. After all, you could simply rely on pencil and paper, your noodle, and your solar-powered calculator to get everything right. |

Which form are you filing? 1040EZ is always free and you can download the forms from turbotax (or irs.gov) for free. I used the online tool from turbotax (the business version) last year and only had to pay to file period - whether I did it electronically or printed it out to mail, I paid the one fee.
Best bet? Do your taxes online and pay the one fee to file it. |

YES. TURBO TAX ask you if you would like to mail and it prints it out professionally. You do have choices. Very good tax program. if you are not in a hurry you can buy it before April 17 the price for the program is cheaper. |
