Can I file my taxes without my W2's?
My husband and I were planning on filing jointly this year as this is the first year we were married. My employer generally doesn't send out our w2's till the very last minute. My husband already has his. My question is, do we have to wait or is there any way we can file before they get here? I have heard something about using my last pay check stub to file. Would it be better if we filed Married but separately? We have a daughter that was born Dec. 1 so we will be getting the child tax credit, but not the EIC because we make too much for that one. Thank you!

STOP! If you file separate and had a new baby--you can only take the smaller child tax credit. You might even disqualify yourself out of that great one time extra child credit the IRS gives new parents. Use your last pay stub (if your sure of the YTD amount) and file Married.

Call your employer and ask them what their EIN is.

You can get more money if you file seperate. Also you can file your taxes from the last pay stub. Also decide who make more money, and the person who makes the least amount then claim your child on that tax. You will come out richer. (Smile).

Yes. All you need are your last pay-stubs from last year. Try Jackson=Hewitt, they're prety fair.

Sure, you should have a Dec Year to Date pay stub with virtually the same information your W2 will provide. However, if there are any adjustments you will be forced to file an ammended return after the fact. I would wait if I were you - but you can do it now.

As long as the tax preparer can find the EIN number then you will be good to go. You can go to the website below and they will find the EIN for you if you want a free estimate.

If you're filing by mail, you'll need to attach the W-2. Using your pay stub is fine if you're trying to figure out your bottom line, but the IRS requires that any form that shows withholding must be attached to the return.

Also, chances are you aren't going to be better off as MFS. It's a pretty rare case that there would be a tax advantage of filing separately. Some individuals choose that for legal reasons, some taxpayers are required to (legally separated spouses), but other than that, I can't imagine that your situation would indicate anything other than married filing joint.

I filed mine yesterday, to beat the traffic. I used my last pay stub. I hope everything is right in chance of an audit. I went to file mind online at H&R block. It was really easy although the $70 was a little excessive, still saves the trouble of driving and waiting when i can get it done and over with.
What i did was fill in the blanks with my 2005 W2 according to my income and deductions this year.
Good luck!
