testingway | Can I get a tax credit somehow for the child support I pay? |
I have joint legal and physical custody of my son who I get almost 50% of the time. She claims him as a dependent on taxes. Since the "child support" reduces my income by $6000 a year, is there someway I can get a tax credit to help me out? Or is Ron Paul my only hope? :p Additional Details Thanks guys. I didn't think I could. Basically I took all our accumulated debt, gave her the ability to claim him, gave her my car, and pay child support. No I wasn't in my right mind, and no I wasn't "allowed" to even have a lawyer. |

Easily! Just contact Your Accountant or H & R Block or whoever you want for accounting, you can even claim exspousal support payments too, all with any traveling and the costs of running the car as well!
Please Have A Peaceful And Happy New Year!
GOD BLESS! |

Many parents take turns claiming the dependent child(ren) if both are financially supporting the child; that is, they claim the child in alternating years. If you and the child's mother have not reach an agreement about this, you should pursue it as part of the custody agreement. It's only fair. Good luck! |

No, child support isn't deductible. Sorry. If you had him over 1/2 of the time, you could claim him as a dependent, but since you don't, his mom can claim him. |

No... The only thing you get is a trip to jail if you do not pay... The father has no rights whats-so-ever in this area... You are just plain stuck, watching her spend the money however she wants to. I am almost done supporting my ex's lifestyle, which did not have much to do with my children's welfare... Not to mention the snotty people who work for the clerks office.. Sorry, man, no relief is available... Should have had her agree to alternative years to claim dependency in the divorce decree.... |

No, otherwise married couples would be allowed to deduct child rearing expenses. Suck it up. |

I don't believe there is a tax credit you can get since she is claiming your son on her taxes. |

no child support is tax deductible |

Did you give up all your rights to claim him on your taxes? You should be able to claim him every other year. You can't claim child support as spousal support but I would talk to you attorney and accountant as to your rights as to claiming him.
Sorry |
