paul | Can I get any benefits? UK only please.? |
Hi, I'm a UK citizen and have been all my life. I currently live with my mum but only use it as a care of address because she gets help with rent etc. I have always worked until early this year I left/lost my job as I became depressed at the breakup of my relationship and having to leave the home I shared with my partner and daughter.
Since Feb I've been out of work but haven't been to the DSS because I'm not sure if they'll help due to the fact that I didn't get made redundant.
Will they help me financially? Additional Details Diamond Girl? How is it benefit fraud exactly when I haven't paid my mum a penny since living with her and haven't had any benefits from the DSS either? Odd answer imo.
I've paid plenty into this country in the 17 years I HAVE worked since leaving school thank you. |

Very sad to hear leaving your daughter and the break-up of you and her Mum affected you so much. |

If you're medically unable due to work, you can get benefits.
If you were sacked, you might be able to.
You could consider finding other work, or going back into full time education - don't just waste your life on benefits - there's so much of the world to see!!
Instead of asking other people on here who are taking wild stabs in the dark about the real answer - pop along to your local job center and ask there.
The UK social security system won't see you starve... |

You are likely to be entitled to Jobseekers Allowance (JSA) if you are available for and actively seeking work. If you are unable to work due to illness you may be entitled to Incapacity Benefit(IB). The rules of entitlement to IB have changed recently so I cannot be too specific.
To make a claim for benefit you will need to visit your local Jobcentre Plus. You will need to provide ID, proof of income (if any), proof of address etc. Do not delay. The sooner you make a claim, the sooner you will receive benefit.
Good luck. |

If you are able to and willing to work, you are entitled to Job Seekers Allowance.
If you are unable to work eg. depression etc and have a medical certificate then you would be entitled to other benefits - ask your local DSS office or Job Centre. |

If you have paid your national insurance during those 17 years, you should be entitled to JSA.
However, it's been quite a few months since you lost your job, don't you think it's about time to consider getting another one, or are you going to let this break up affect you indefinitely? I don't mean to sound harsh, sometimes we need a push to look at things objectively. However, if you're still depressed, perhaps a trip to the docs would be a good idea. |

yes because you had to leave work because you were ill, but did they know you resided at both addresses, cos if they get wind of that and think that you were doing it 2 defraud them you will be in a lot of trouble so make sure you have your story straight before they question you on that one, also there going to ask you how you have been managing to live for all these months and not work, make sure you have your story straight on that one to, if they can get out of a way of paying you believe me they will, the unemployment agency think that everyone is a worthless sack of s**t who doesn't want to work and that's so unfare for the ones who do, well you need to say your ready now to get back 2 work but until you get a job you need to claim benefits as your out of money and favours, if its you on your own jsa is £97 a fortnight but if it helps it helps, good luck hey |

if ur living with yr mum and shes getting housing benefit then she will be the one in trouble for not advising the council that ur living there. if u havent worked and havent had benefits how have u been maintaining yrself that is the first question they will ask u. u need to get it all sorted, i think i can get jobseekers x no of weeks after leaving a job if u tell them the reasons that may help. if ur on jobseekers then yr mum will not be penalised for u living there as ur entitled to housing benefit and council tax benefit yrself if ur unemployed. |

Well first off, as soon as you apply they will realise you have been screwing them over by living with your mum and not letting them know so that she can still claim benefit. She may stil have been entitled to these benefits had you informed them that you were out of work, depressed and homeless. However, by with holding this information and lying for the past 9 months, you have shot yourself in the foot.
You can apply for job seekers allowance if you have made enough National Insurance contributions. But as I said, good luck with getting anywhere seeing as you've got away with benefit fraud for the past 9 months. I know how slack they are at actually double checking things though, so if you feel its worth the risk of them not finding out you have been living with your mother, then by all means, apply for whatever you feel you are entitled to.
I wish you luck, but this question has annoyed me slightly, as I have been nothing but honest with my circumstances and haven't been able to claim a penny for a long term illness, nor for being off work due to this. I wont get into it now, but the system stinks!
EDIT The benefits agency don't know that do they? are they supposed to take your word for it? the way you worded it made it sound like you deliberately didnt inform them that you had moved in so that she could continue to claim benefits. That is still fraudulent, regardless of whether you have contributed to the household or not. |
