Yes. You can file a 1040X to correct previous filing or to file for missed years. I believe the cutoff is up to 3 years late.

Check with your dad. He may have said not to file if he was claiming you for a deduction that year. You can not both claim yourself as a deduction and he must have contributed more than 50% to your support to claim you as a dependent. You do not want to file a claim and have them going after him for misfiling.

Yes, you can file your tax return and claim any refund due for up to three years after the due date. So, you can still file for 2005, 2006, and 2007 until April 15, 2009.

You must file your 2007 tax return if you income meets the filing requirement.
If someone can claim you dependent, then you can not claim your own exemption. Read about the filing requirements of a dependent: http://taxipay.blogspot.com/2008/02/filing-requirement-for-dependent.html

You can file for 2006 and 2007. If your dad claimed you on his return you were supposed to file using just the standard deduction. You were over your filing requirement for both years. You should file and you may get a refund. If when you file you did not owe they will send you the refund.

Yes you can go back as far as 2005 and get your refund from then if you filed it by 4/15 this year. For 2006, you have another year yet.

You can get the W-2 copies from the IRS.

Yes, you can file a tax return for any of the previous three years (2005, 2006, and 2007) in which you did not file. If the taxes withheld from your paycheck exceed the taxes that you owe, then you will receive a refund of the difference. If the withholding was not enough, then you will owe the difference plus some penalties and interest.

Also, please find out what your father recommending about your filing. It is possible that he was only informing you that you were still his dependent. If that is the case you can still file, but are not allowed to take your own personal exemption, because a dependent exemption for you was already claimed by your father.

To find out what your w-2's were for a prior year, you can call the IRS and request them to send you a transcript of your all tax documents for the year in question. It takes a few weeks to get them mailed to your home address. If you want them faster, go to a professional tax preparer and together call the IRS. The IRS will usually send the transcript by fax within a few minutes directly to the tax preparer's office.

Good luck with your prior year filings.

You can file previous year/s taxes and if they owe you money yes you will get it. I am sure there is a reason why your asked you not to file so make sure you talk to your dad and a tax preparer and you file correctly. Hope you get all your money back!!!

I don't know why your dad would tell you such a thing! You must now pay last year's taxes plus a penalty and interest. I suggest going to a tax professional to get the whole mess straightened out. You sure don't want to mess with the IRS, they will come after you!
