I don't think you would go to Jail but you could get in serious trouble if you filed his tax return and signed his check without his consent. |

It's possible, but probably not. But it is tax fraud, and you can be in some pretty serious trouble for that. Signing someone else's name to any document is a VERY bad idea. |

You could have filed a separate return. Since you signed his name, that can open you up to forgery and fraud charges. |

Technically, you have committed fraud, and you may eventually pay fines and penalties, but you probably won't go to jail for signing your ex-husband's name on a joint tax return.
If your taxes for the year have been completely paid, and if your ex-husband has nothing to gain by arguing about the income taxes you filed (if you think he will agree with everything you filed), then you probably don't have anything to worry about.
However, if your ex could have done better on his personal tax return by filing separately (or singly, if you weren't living together for the last 6 months of the year), then he may get upset about your signing his name, and that may cause trouble. Also, if you still owe taxes, he might be able to get out of paying them because you signed his name, and you might owe them all yourself.
Here's a good rule: If you don't have permission to sign someone's name, you shouldn't do it--ever! |

Yes, that is illeagal.
You should not have done that.
If he does not file seperatly on his own and he does not complain then nobody will care. He is probably intitled to get part of any refund you have coming back, so don't spend it all. |

hmmm...you should have filed married but seperate and let him do the same. then he's responsible for his, you have no control over whether he does it or not and can't be blamed for his mistakes.
but you didn't.
And you not only committed tax fraud, but possibly identity theft by forging his name. If you don't get audited, didn't cheat on it, and he doesn't say anything, you might be okay. but if he claims that he didn't sign it or you get caught cheating, you can be in BIG trouble! Taxes are serious! And if you forged his name to cash the refund check, its theft b/c part of it is his........good luck |

Why would you file his name on your taxes since he's your ex? Do you hate him that much? ( Just kidding. ) It depends on how bad it was such as the money owed and stuff , I guess. |

thats fraud, so its illegal. I dont know the punishments but the IRS takes Tax fraud very seriously. |
|

Ms. Angel..

Tax fraud. If your husband doesn't report you then you might not have nothing to worry about.
But IRS does compare signature.
Good luck, I don't think IRS sends anyone to jail. |
