Can I still do my taxes if my mom is claiming me as a dependent too?
I worked a few months out of the year and was wondering if I can do my taxes if my mom is claiming me too? Will it mess anything up?

To answer this simply, your mom will claim you as a dependant. Yes do your taxes and you claim zero dependants, do it free online and see if they at the end show a refund or amount due. Even if you will get 1 dollar back it is worth doing, just remember mom gets to claim you, you enter zero. Also after completing your fed return do the state, most states have a link at their own webiste, where as the free file ones at the irs.gov website where you start your taxes from, will charge so just fill in for federal when they ask if you want to do state, say no, so it is still free, finish it up, if you owe you must pay, if you get a refund good for you! On your own paychecks you can claim 1 dependant, yourself, but on your taxes its zero since mom claimed you (she gets a bigger refund since she supported you all this time.) Ok hope this helped.

When you file, you indicate that someone else can claim you.

if your income for the year is less than $5450, you will get the withholding back. If your income is more, you may get a refund or you may owe.

One has nothing to do with the other, aside from the filing requirement amount. As a dependent you MUST file if your earnings from a job are more than $5,450. If they are less you should still file if any Federal income taxes (box 2 of Form W-2) were withheld from your pay so that can be refunded to you.

YES U CAN STILE FILE...
SHE CAN CLAIM U AS A DEPENDENT IF U EARNED LESS THAN 3500 AND YOU ONLY HAVE TO FILE IF U EARNED MORE THAN 8000.. BUT IF THEY TOOK OUT ALOT OF FEDERAL WITH HOLDING THAN FILE :)

ALTHOUGH ONE SAID ONE DOES NOT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH ANOTHER,,,,, HE IS COMPLETELY WRONG... SOCIAL # CONNECT AND ADDRESSES SO AUDITS COME ALONG AND YOU GUYS GET SCREWED SO WHEN IT COMES TO GOVERMENT IRS. ETC. THEY WILL FIND THE CONNECTION AND TRACK...

did you have withholding ,if so you need to file to get your money back. but check the box where it says you are claimed on your parents return.

NO- do not file taxes if your mom claims you on hers. You should work something out with her so she can give you the money you would have been refunded.

She is claiming you so it will really give her a break on taxes with you as a dependent BUT since you worked and would be due a refund, she should give you a couple bucks for your return.

you can not filing taxes if your mom is going to claim you on here's and if you made less I think it is 15,000 you do not have to do it any way. But right now it would be better if your mom claims you she will get back more money since I am not shore about that ask a CPA or some that can prepare taxes

Edit
15,000 is for the year
Edit
I make less then 12,500 a year and I do not have to file but I will so If Obama pass the 800bil I will be able to get some from that
