0000 | Can IRS withdraw money from your bank acct without permission? |
|
|

Ms. Angel..
 |
Yes, they will send a notice, then another and then another and then take the money if you don't respond. By responding you would be agreeing to setting up an installment agreement or full paying the amount you owe.
Call them ASAP. |

If you owe back taxes and the IRS follows the proper procedures, the IRS can levy your account without your permission.
Note that the IRS will give you plenty of warning before any levy, so once collection notices start you still have time to make arrangements to pay. Contacting the IRS early in the collection process will prevent a levy. |

Yes, but they will send notices for payment before they do. Best to not let it get that far. States can do it to. |

The IRS uses tax liens to collect money. If you owe money to IRS it is best to contact them and work something out because if they have to come after you it won't be good. |

Yes, definitely. I work in the Collections department of the IRS, and you receive 4 notices, each giving you 45 days to respond. The last notice is certified and must be signed for. So we know you received it. If there is no response, then your wages and bank accounts will be garnished. And it is not pretty to get a check for 125.00 after an IRS garnishment. And its also not pretty to go to the bank, and they have frozen your account because they are getting ready to send a check to the IRS for everything in your account. Just call 1800-829-7650, and speak to the representative and set up a payment arrangement. |

Yes, if you owe them. You are usually given an opportunity to set up a payment plan, but if you don't, or don't stick to it, they can and will start taking assets. |

Yes, if you owe back taxes. |

If it's an enforced collection action and the proper procedures have been followed, the IRS can issue a levy notice to the bank. This requires the bank to hold whatever is in the account for 21 days and then remit it to the IRS on the 22nd day.,
Otherwise, the IRS only "withdraws" money from your account when you have authorized a direct debit to pay your tax--either when you file your return or when you set up an installment agreement.
