NO! Wages in TX cannot be garnished for anything but taxes and/or child support. Furthermore, your TX homestead can only be taken for nonpayment of taxes or the mortgage that is secured by it. |

Bostonian is right! Noone else knows what they're talking about. In most cases they might be right, but not this time.
Certain states do not allow for garnishment, except for federal debts (IRS, student loans) or child support and Texas is one of them. |

No. And if the debt is more than 4 years old, they can't sue you either. |

Unless something changed and I missed it, only the government (IRS) and the attorney general (child support) cna garnish wages. Debt collectors can sue and get judgments but all that means is you have a choice to pay it in payments or let it go off your credit in 7-10 years. And something else, if a debt collector is threatneing you, you can report them for harassment. |

A bill collector can only have your wages garnished under court order which means they would have to take you to court and win. The best way for this not to happen is to talk to the people you owe money to and see if you can come up with a compromise, if they agree get the deal in writing then keep your word and pay them what you said you would and how. |

yeah but they still need a court order- your job will notify you if they get something ordering them to do so.
Dont worry to much, alot of times bill collectors pretend to have way more power than the do.

My ex was engaged (prior to me) and he and she bought rings...it didnt work out and they took the rings back.
Ring company said that they still owe $2k on the rings.
That was 12 years ago and he up until last year still gets notices and calls to pay it,
It wasnt on his credit report so he didnt pay and wont |
