Yes, the IRS will take complaints of fraudlent activity from private individuals:
from the IRS website
If you suspect or know of an individual or company that is not complying with the tax laws, you may report this activity by completing Form 3949-A. You may fill out Form 3949-A online, print it and mail it to:
Internal Revenue Service
Fresno, CA 93888
If you do not wish to use Form 3949-A, you may send a letter to the address above. Please include the following information, if available:
Name and address of the person you are reporting
The taxpayer identification number (social security number for an individual or employer identification number for a business)
A brief description of the alleged violation, including how you became aware of or obtained the information
The years involved
The estimated dollar amount of any unreported income
Your name, address and daytime telephone number. Although you are not required to identify yourself, it is helpful to do so. Your identity can be kept confidential.

If she has evidence that you've been cheating on your taxes. yes she can. If she just says "he's a dirty rat and I know he must be cheating on his taxes" she can file a complaint but nobody will pay any attention to it. |

Yes, they can turn you in for some things. But my question is, for what? If you have evaded taxes and they can prove it (they must prove it), then they can collect a bonus fee $$ for turning you in. However, the IRS investigates these carefully and they better have their info straight.
Hope this helps.

If you're up to no good and they have evidence of it, sure. |

The IRS offers rewards to wistle blowers and has a place to file an compliance/enforcement complaint right there on their website.
You also might want to consider that your x could approach the situation as an innocent spouse. It might not be a matter of trying to get even with you, but if she knows you have been less than honest she may want to seek protection and not find herself behind their crosshairs for something you did while you were together. I believe the IRS does take those situations into consideration.
Why don't you just pay what you owe. Everyone wants to tax the rich down to their level but don't want to pay their taxes. Go figure. |

It would be very dumb for an ex-spouse to turn in the other spouse. This would prove that the ex-spouse had knowledge of the tax evasion, and she may end of owing the money just as you do.
If you have tax problems, discuss them with an attorney, enrolled agent, or CPA who will treat your information confidentially. Mentioning your problems to others is asking for trouble. |

What do you mean turn you to the IRS?
If you did not report any W2 or 1099 income and your X has copy of that she can send it to the IRS. Then you will have to pay interest and penalty on the tax due.
Otherwise without proof, IRS receives so many such letters, that they normally ignore these letters. |

yeah she can but without your social security number it would be quite difficult!
If you still talk to her, lie to her and tell her that you got a letter from the IRS about 6k in back taxes and accuse her of turning you in. Tell her how pissed you are about having to go to court for it and if you find out that it was her that you are going to be really pissed at her!
If she didn't do already, it she wont waste her time!
problem solved! |
