Can anyone find the law that states we have to pay taxes on our income?
I have done a bunch of research and it just blows my mind that no one can actually show where this law is documented. For a law to be a true law, it must be filed in the federal register. And guess what? There is no such law?

Guess what, you need a mental laxative.

I've seen bead tax protester arguments before, but this is right up there. It's painfully obvious that you have done "a bunch of research." The Federal Register is the official daily publication for rules, proposed rules, and notices of Federal agencies and organizations, as well as executive orders and other presidential documents. Laws are not filed in the register. If you want to find the laws obligating you to pay income tax "research" something other than a tax denier website, and check out title 26 of the US Code. 26 U.S.C. § 1 “There is hereby imposed on the taxable income of every individual . . . who is not a married individual a tax determined in accordance with the following table:” The code defines what is taxable income in 26 U.S.C. § 63 as “gross income minus the deductions allowed” . Gross income is defined in 26 U.S.C. § 61. It is an extensive list the most important provision is: [G]ross income means all income from whatever source derived, including (but not limited to) the following items: (1) Compensation for services, including fees, commissions, fringe benefits, and similar items;
26 U.S.C. § 6012(a) requires you to file a tax return if you make a certain amount and 26 U.S.C. § 6151 requires you to pay a tax.

Obviously your research has been SEVERELY deficient.

Go back and read The Constitution. Specifically Article 1, Section 8. That's ALL that Congress needs to levy ANY tax, including income taxes.

The 16th Amendment solidified the treatment of income taxes as indirect taxes not subject to apportionment and removed the only judicial bar to Federal income taxes.

Finally, Google Title 26 of the US Code. That's the Tax Code. The Cornell Law Library has probably the best annotated copy of it on the net, all 64,000 plus pages of it.

BTW, you won't find laws in the Federal Register. Not sure where you get the idea that they're published there. You can piece them together from the Congressional Record if you have the time (and are otherwise bored enough) to try. And you might find a cryptic reference in the FR that the President has signed or vetoed specific bills by number but the texts of the bills themselves are not published there.

There, now you are FAR more educated than you were 3 minutes ago! Enjoy your new-found knowledge!

Guess what? You're wrong. And this same claim has been made here and other places hundreds of times. Doesn't make it true.

Its in the Constitution of the United States

It has 3 parts...

the preamble - the opening paragraph
the main body - 7 articles
and the
amendmends- article 5 - where they can add things b/c they knew it wasn't perfect.

Its in the Amendments- The 16th Amendment- this amendment allowed taxes to be placed on personal income.

Hope this helped.

Most of the various laws concerning income taxes are codified in Title 26 of the U.S. Code. You can read it at http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/26/ or at http://www.access.gpo.gov/uscode/title26/title26.html or at http://uscode.house.gov/download/title_26.shtml The sections of the code that apply to most people are sections 1, 61, 62, 63, 3402, 6001, 6011 and 6012.

To see the actual laws passed by Congress, look in the U.S. Statutes at Large. For the most part, these are not available online. However, they can be read in most law libraries and most Federal Depository Libraries. Search for Federal Depository Libraries to find one in your state. The current tax laws get their basic form from the Internal Revenue Act of 1954 and the Tax Reform Act of 1986. Various amendments through the years have modified those two acts to give us the tax laws as they are currently. You can read the 1954 act in Volume 68A beginning on page 3 of the U.S. Statutes at Large. You can read the 1986 act in Volume 100 beginning on page 2085.

No, I can't find the "The Law" but as mentioned by a previous answerer...I can find many laws that state the same thing but apply to different parts of the tax code.

Oh by the way...if the test your using for a "real law" is being filed on the federal register...I have several bridges that I would like to talk to you about. Ever heard of common law, judicial law or even congressional law...none of those are registered there.

Just because the original constitution doesn't say that you can doesn't mean that they cannot pass laws that are just as legal.

Hope this helps.

Internal Revenue Code 62. All income is taxable unless expressly excluded. That means any income you earn or get world wide is taxable.
