oh my various gods! | Can debt collectors garnish your tax refund? |
I have a large amount of medical-expense debt that I'll never be able to pay off. Can they/collection agencies take your tax refunds? |
|

huh?
|
No. Only debt owed to the govt. can be garnished. |

yes but i believe that they can only touch the state refund not federal |

Generally no, a medical debt is not going to hold up your refund. The only debts I've seen come out of tax refunds are goverment oriented...child support, owing state tax, gov. student loans, food stamps....etc...however, I have seen a non government debt be taken from a refund that went through a bank...like if you get a Rapid Refund from an organization, a "fast refund loan", so stay away from those, simply efile your return, and you'll be okay! Good luck! |

If you are due a refund but have not paid certain amounts you owe, all or part of your refund may be used to pay all or part of the past-due amount. This includes past-due federal income tax, other federal debts (such as student loans), state income tax, and child and spousal support payments. |

Yes, You are better off, sending $10 a month to each debt and then you will be showing some steps to make a payment. Try to do that in addition to setting up an agreed payment plan. They will say no to $10 but if you send it and they accept it, they are accepting terms. Your taxes, not sure after that. |

No, student loans can come out and I think child support, but the collectors can only garnish your wages. How do I know? Personal experience. |

Yes, they can. You will actually be notified, before they can actually do it. Unless it is a state or federal debt, then you won't be notified until they get the money!! |

yes if they go through the correct channels |

UNFORTUNATELY THEY CAN THAT'S THE GOOD O'L LAWS FOR YA.
YOU CAN HIRE A LAWYER BUT IT WOULD END UP COSTING YOU MORE MONEY THAN YOU CAN STAND TO LOSE.
EXSPECIALLY IF THE LAWYER LOSES IN COURT. |

if u owe the court money and they send it to the state tax board and the bill is like 4000 or more how much can they pull out from your taxes return at the end of the year if its the same amount. |
