back by popular demand | Can i claim housing benefit? while i live at my partners mum's house? ? |
i have just lost my job and struggling to pay for our rent there, my partner is on maternity leave and her parents cannot afford to keep us there rent free. We cannot get a council house as we own a property. Mortgage is too high and we couldnt afford the mortgage and had to move home. Am i able to claim housing benefit? i know my girlfriend cannot as it is her step dad we are renting from. Thanks Additional Details Baby Sparkle are u a loner? there is more than 1 person asking questions on here, i am not on 23 grand a year a recently lost my job so i have to get money from somewhere to support my child it's either work for min wage with an agencie or work 16 hours a week claim jobseekers and try to get housing benefits which i will earn more till i get a good job,so tell me loner what is best for my child?i cant see why they would not let me have housing benefits as my gfriend parents can not afford to keep me does that sound like benefit fraud well babysparkle if it does what the hell has it got to do with you? dont judge pple, if you have kids i feel sorry for them you sound like some1 who has nothing else to do and no1 to love so you nose in to every1elses lifes, get your own m8. no you cant. you are living with her parents and they are not legally landlords. they would be having to declare the rent money to the council/benefits agency / tax office as this is seen as income on their part. only then would she then have to have a rent card and receipts of what is paid and take them to the council.
your girlf has already asked this question, and if it wasnt her then it was a canny resemblence. but you were earning £23k then, now your unempoyed hmmmmmmm
benefit fraud springs to mind. get another job and support your child like millions of others |

unless you can prove they are your landlord i.e. produce a rent book then I doubt it. Ask at your local Citizen advice Bureau they will tell you what your right are.

You say you could not afford the mortgage on your home, would it have been better to let the property to pay the mortgage.
If your in-laws have the space to let you live there, as long as you pay your way (maybe take anything until the right job comes along). It will not be a lot to pay for your own food, and put money say 50% to the bills. Im sure your in-laws do not want to make money out of a difficult situation there daughter has got into.
But the answer to your question, is No you will not get Housing Benefit living with any parents, and quite rightly so. Im sorry if that is not the answer you want. |
