Yes. If you meet the criteria (low income and limited savings) then you can claim income support. Once youre on that, you can claim a one off grant for furnishings and necessities. Go to your local citizens advice and they should be able to give you independent advice.
Or if youve got a week to spare...try looking through and working out what youre entitled to on their website.
Good luck

no i don,t think so.
i was getting incapacity benefit and i could,nt.
but i could get child tax benefit.
talk to you local C A B they can tell you what your intitled to.
also i could,nt get a loan of the social.
but there are charities that can help

As IB is paid at an high rate than income support you won't be able to claim both.

Where was you living before getting your flat, didn't you have furniture there?

Andy F
If you are in receipt of a qualifying benefit, you may be eligible for help from the Social Fund. they have

Budgeting loans ( interest free, paid back weekly)

Community care grants ( one off payment for people with medical problems etc. They don't have to be paid back )

Have a look at the Website for department of work and pensions, there will be some help for you on there..
Good Luck

I think you will find that the ic is more than you are allowed on IS so you would be getting too much but put in a claim anyway. ALternatively contact your local Salvation Army and ask if they can help - a friend of mine had nothing and they provided a settee and a bed ; not much but it was a start. Alternatively go on ebay you would be surprised what you can get for 99p on there.

No...IS is worked out on your total income as you are getting Icap B you are getting about £2-£3 more than the government say you can live on so your not intitled to IS as well.
You can apply for a hardship loan so you can buy things for your flat like washing machines or cookers...only essential items tho and they will want to see receipts for them...you have to pay this off straight from your benefits each week.

Give them a call and explain your problems..I'm sure they will be helpful.

i think it depends on what rate you are in, but you could be entitled to a community care grant. you would have to see an adviser at your local job centre and they would be able to advise you better or go to the citizens advice bureau . you may be able to claim housing benefit too. but on something like this you are best going to see an advisor who will be able to sort it all out for you.

alex s
I think you can and I also think you can get financial help with furnishing your new home if you cant afford to do it yourself. Contact your social worker, GP or citizens advice bureau who will be able to advise you.

claimbankchargesback
No. They are both the same thing practically, so you can either claim one or the other.

You can take out a crisis loan from the DSS which would give you some money to help with buying furnishings. This is paid back at a low rate which is automatically taken out of your money each week or month, and you don't get charged interest.

to all you who are saying get a loan from the social fund this is impossible you have to be on income support to get a social fund loan for at least 26 weeks Incapacity does not qualify you for a social fund loan so please stop giving stupid wrong answers and further you cannot recieve a community care grant neither you have to have come out of prison or care,or hospital after long stay to qualify for the communtiy care grant tell the lady the truth she aint getting nothing from the DWP

ONLY ONE PERSON AS GIVEN ANYTHING NEAR THE RIGHT ANSWER AND THAT WAS OZZY
