One Step Ahead
 |
It does not matter what you have on your job W-4, it only counts when you file your 1040 and 540 tax returns. You have to claim the true status on the tax forms.
Some people put Married with 6 or Single with 3, but when they file your tax return they have to put the correct numbers and names and social security numbers for their dependents.
Two people can not claim the same person. If your wife or girlfriend is claiming her as a dependent then this will trigger a audit from your Uncle Sam. |

Yes you can. Doesn't really matter how many you claim on your form W-4 for work you can still claim as many as you are entitled to on your tax return.

She needs to have lived with you for over 6 months of the year full time. Also I know that you can claim 2 children to get the unearned income, but the 3 doesn't get you more money, it stops at 2. So it will depend on what the other 2 you are claiming are, as in age wise, a spouse, a parent you care for. Call a tax rep and they can tell you. |

If you're referring to the W4 that you fill out when you're hired, then yes, you can. All that does is tell the employer how much taxes to withhold from your paycheck. It has nothing to do with your actual return and who or what you claim. |

Yes... you can claim what ever you want throughout the year, and then when it comes to filing, you claim what you actually have.... |

that depends on your state you best calling a company like Jackson Hewitt or h&r block to find out for sure what the policy is in your state i know in California you can only claim a child if they have been with you for 12 months |
