yooyooo | Can i file taxes this year if i only ---? |
Worked 3 days at rite aid. I did fill out a form which would give me about 1,700 dollars through out the year in each check. Which i only recieved one check for the 3 days which had the additional 40 dollars in it from the form i filled out. It said i must file taxes at the end of the year if i did that. Does anyone know if i'll recieve a w-2's this year if i ONLY worked 3 days and that was the only job i've had my whole life. I'm 17 if that has anything to do w/ it. Additional Details I got a check for about 200 dollars those three days and i have a 2 year old daughter which that is the form i filled out. i'm just not sure if i'll recieve w-2's in the mail to file taxes or not. |

If you had taxes withheld from your paycheck, you will get them back if you file and request a refund.
You will be able to file a 1040EZ. If you don't file, you won't get in trouble, because you did not earn enough to have to pay taxes this year.
I hope that helps. |

They are required to send you a W-2 even for just the 3 days.
What was the form you filled out? Request for Advanced Earned Income Credit payments? If so, you have to file a return, and might owe some of that $40 back depending on how much you made for the 3 days. That would be strange though, unless you have a dependent child, since you wouldn't be eligible for EIC.
Please post again with more info on what the form was you filled out. |

If you had federal income tax withheld from your pay you will have to file a 1040EZ to get this refunded. You will release your dependency to your parents. You can make up to 5,450 and owe no federal income tax. |

If what you received is advanced earned income credit, yes, you must file, even for three days of work. |

When you get the W-2 in January of next year, look through ALL of the boxes.
From your statements, it's clear that there will be a entry in box 9 for about $41. This is "advance EIC" and should only have signed up for it you were truly supporting yourself and your daughter. At age 17, I'm willing to bet you live with your parents and they, not you, will be claiming you and your daughter.
If box 9 has an entry, you MUST file a 1040A since you will have to account for that money. As a dependent, you won't get EIC of your own, so you'll have to pay it back. Chances are you had nothing withheld for federal or state taxes. If you aren't a dependent (highly unlikely), you'd be eligible for another $37.

The other answer (stating a $600 filing requirement) is totally incorrect. Unless you were considered self employed - which you were not if you were working for Rite Aid, your filing requirement is easily around $5,000 (a little more, but I'm being lazy). If Rite Aid did take out federal taxes, you will want to file to get those back.

You dont have to file unless you made over a certain amount of money. The form you filed out was that a W4.. depending on how you filled that out would depend on how much you get back. You may even end up having to pay in. What I would so in your case is have my parents claim me and my daughter. Your not old enough to get EIC but your parents can get income from you and your daughter and they will get more back than you would. I would not file my taxes and then ask them about claiming you and then maybe giving you the money they get extra off you and your daughter. |

You only need to file taxes if you earned over $600. I'm a little confused about your circumstances, so I'm not sure if that's the case or not.
If you did earn more than $600 in the year, total, then you do have to file. Otherwise, you don't have to. |
