No. You need to have some income to claim the "earned income credit" and you can't get any child tax credits on nothing earned.

You did not have income from work. Did you have other taxable income? For example, investment income or alimony? Did you have Social Security payments? If so, have your income reviewed by a preparer to see if you are required to file.

If you have one child to claim, this would reduce any taxes you owe. You would be able to get a refund if you had paid taxes through withholding, or if you had earned income from wages and qualified for the Earned Income Credit or Additional Child Tax Credit.

If you did not work, there is no reason to file except to receive the small long distance phone tax credit.

The additional child tax credit and the earned income tax credit can only be claimed if you have "earned income" (ie a job or self-employment).

...to get a "refund" you would have had to put "something" in.
What you're asking for is a "hand-out"... I don't think so.....

If you didn't have any income, then no, you can't get a tax refund. And if you had income like from investments, you'd only get a refund if you had taxes withheld that were more than you actually owed.

No. In order to recieve the earned income credit refund...you must have been employed at a job at least once during the year...no matter if only a few days.

If you don't have a W-1 for reportable income, no.

You had no income. None. How did you live? Did you receive child support? Did you get AFDC, food stamps, SSI, social security? Come on somewhere you got some money. If youu received AFDC or child support you can use that money to get the earned income deduction.

imjames
yes you can

i believe so by filing for earned income credit see the local H&R block. I wouldn't reccomend them for all taxes though
