It depends. I was unemployed a while back and I claimed until I found a job. Go to your local job centre and enquire about it. They should give you a number and you have to ring it and answer some questions and they will tell you whether your entitled to jobseekers allowance or not.
& all you people that are acting like its his/her fault for being unemployed.. IT ISN'T! its hard finding a job lately. I tried for agesssss before I found a job and even at the job centre they agreed it is hard and I might be on benefits for a while so don't judge people that are claiming. |

If you're at working age, are able to work and actively seeking work, then yes, you can.
However, once every week or every two weeks, you have to see a job seeker adviser (when "signing on") and prove that you have been actively seeking jobs. This can mean, giving a list of jobs you've applied for, copies of application forms, applying or calling for jobs while at the job centre etc. If the adviser isn't happy with your effort, then they have a right to suspend your claim.
Also, if you fail to turn up for an appointment with the adviser, then again they can suspend your claim until the matter is resolved.

You are entitled to claim Jobseekers allowance if you are unemployed, however what amount of allowance you can recieve is in consideration of certain facts. These are, if you have recieved any redundancy payments, your age, and any savings you have. You can apply for this allowance at any Job Centre. |
