I would think that different states would have different laws. I think in the state I live in it is based on your earnings per week. I would contact your local unemployment office and ask them for the best answer to your question. |

Absolutely not. The last working day before you start the new job is the last day you can collect. If you try to collect unemployment for any day you work, it's fraud and you not only have to repay the money, but pay penalties as well and you'll be barred from collecting unemployment in the future. If the amount is more than a few days overlap (e.g. you collect a full week, but started work mid-week), the penalties may include jail -- fraud convictions are felonies. |

It's all based on the week that you actually worked, not when you get paid for that work. You will find when you claim the week for your unemployment, they will ask something to the effect of Did you do any work for the week ending _____ ? If you lie and say you didn't, they will eventually catch it and you will have to pay that money back. In some states, this will also prevent you from filing another unemployment claim for a certain period of time. It is a crime to knowingly lie and it really is not worth the headaches it will cause in the future. Just buy a jar of peanut butter and some bread and live like a pauper for a minute. Visit family and friends at dinner time for a couple of weeks. It will be easier in the long run and it's the right thing to do. |
