Look at your W-2. Look at box 1 (wages) and box 2 (withholding).
If you made more than $5350, you would have to file. If you only had wage income and it was less than $5350 and there were taxes withheld, you should file to get the withholding back.

If your income is over the filing minimum for your circumstances you would still need to file a return. If under the minimum, you would want to file to get a refund of any tax withheld.
The only difference would be that you would not be able to take a personal exemption for yourself, since you are your parent's dependent.

if you are a student you can file no matter how much you made and just mark on your return claime as a dependent or already been claimed and they will get the dependency credit for you and EIC if they are eligible and you will simply get back what you paid in!

if you are 25 then you must carry yourself on taxes. If you applied for a fafsa under your parents then you are still listed as their dependent. You can file taxes independently ONLY if you are not a dependent of someone else.
