it depends on the policy of the company. i don't know what state your in but some states are at will states. that means it is at the will of the employer. they can fire you for no reason at all. they want team players. don't answer the phone next time get an answering machine. |

I would take this up with your supervisor. Also, what is your job?
If you're a job that is on-call or dependent on customers in need, a "day off" doesn't always mean a day off. If everyone else was sick and you were the only one that could work, that means you would have to come in.
However, lose the attitude and go in with a sense of "I don't know if I did it the right or wrong way." Not "You're wrong. I'm right."
If the day off was approved and you don't have a high-demand job (sales, emergency services, installation), you shouldn't have had to come in. |

They might be able to write you up but you don't have to sign anything they give you. I had an ex employer who tried to write me up on a bogus charge and they tried to make me sign the write up sheet. I refused to sign it. I said I would not sign it because I did not agree with it. They tried to say it is only to show that I received it. I stuck to my guns. I said my signature is my signature and I had the right to refuse to sign or not sign. They didn't like it but there was nothing they could do. Later on they tried to use the unsigned write up on me and it blew up in their face. I would look for a new job in the mean time though they sound like a bunch of jerks. |

If it's your day off, and they call you in to come work and you refuse, they SHOULDNT be able to write you up, especially if you're not on the schedule for that day.
If they end up writing you up, I would find out the number for your corporate office (or at least a higher-up in the chain of command) and see if they can do that. If they were to come after you for that, it would be for retaliation purposes, and that boss will be fired. |

it all depends on your contract..if you dont have a contract then it depends on your state's laws on this issue.
but most of the time, they are in the right. the only thing i would tell you is educate yourself on what you can and cannot do so that you make an informed desicion. this way you wont have to ask whether what you did was ok or not.
however, if you do get written up and they were not in the right, you can sue if this causes you to lose your job.
