Can my husband do his taxes with mine without me knowing?
I am doing my taxes next year with my husband next year, but i am affraid that he might do my taxes with him and keep the money, can he do this? the w-2 will arrive to our house... ????
Additional Details
does he need my signature, he usually makes them online.

Legally, you have to approve (and sign) the final tax return, but of course, this is easy to fake. W-2 can either be mailed to your home or he might get it at work. But the w-2, alone, doesn't tell you if there is any money coming back or if you will owe money.

I'm not sure but you might be able to request a copy of your filed returns from the IRS. They are yours, after all. And if your husband cheats on them, YOU are also responsible for them, so you should demand to see them before they are sent in.

Sounds like some serious trust issues in your marriage. I hope you get that worked out.

Honestly, if you have this level of apprehension with your own HUSBAND, the larger issue is HIS CHARACTER and your MARRIAGE, not the tax refund.

Good luck.

stupid people make me laugh!!!
i he does them online, no he doesn't need your signature...all he needs to know is your ssn. i did my taxes and my wife's together for the past three years. we were in agreement though. you get more back when you file "married filing jointly" i would file separately from your husband as "married filing separately" i don't know why you would be married to someone you can not trust or who wouldn't let you have your share of the tax return. you could always report him to the irs for falsifying tax documents, but than you guys would probably get audited and stuff....welll good luck

yes he does need your signature

artemisaodc1
If he forges your signature, digital or otherwise.

Your husband can do your taxes online with the adjusted gross income amount from your last year's return (if you did separate, then he needs EACH AGI) WITHOUT your signature. It is fraud. You are a little late, but you could request to go pick up your W2 from your employer...it actually should already have been mailed.
It is fraud, so you can report him to the IRS. They can flag his return so that your husband's refund can be held if your information is on it.
You can contact the IRS to see if your taxes have been filed fraudulently. There are severe penalties, but I know people who it has happened to. Good luck.

He can do it with out your signature. As long as he has your social then he can definitely file them jointly. And yes, he can collect the refund with out you getting it (direct deposit instead of a check). I'd look into it.

Hope it helps,
Lee

if he does it online, i think that he could so do yours first.
