Can my mother claim me as a tax exemption?
I already filed my taxes and claimed myself buy my mother got mad at me and said she could claim me as a tax exemption and she would get way more money back than I would.
I lived with her until the first of July and I turned 18 July 20th. I made about 7,000 from July till Dec.

Yes, she can claim you as a dependent (not an exemption). And you probably are worth more to her in tax savings than you saved yourself. You can file an amended return and "unclaim" yourself. You'll owe more taxes (or get a smaller refund) and then she can claim you. (Requirements for her to claim you: 1) you are under 19 or 24 & a student, you lived with her for at least half the year, 3) she provided more than 50% of your support. )

Deduction, not exemption.
Yes, she can, because she paid for your support for more than 6 months before you turned 18, and your income was so small that you didn't "have" to file.

The question is: do you depend on her for your livelihood? If she still supports you, then you are an exemption for her. If you're monetarily independent, that write-off no longer exists.

She could have, but now it's too late. Only one person may claim you.

You didn't say if you were a fulltime student for any part of the year, but it sounds like she supported you half the year and you were under 19. She probably would receive a lot more than you did if you filed single.
She claims you as a dependent and takes an exemption for you.

Your mother can claim you until you are 24 . Unless you provide all your food, clothing and rent paid to your mother she should be able to deduct you. If one of my kids did that to me they would be looking for a new place to live.

Nope, you already filed. She can't claim you since you claimed yourself.

I'm pretty sure she can still claim you. As long as you lived with her for six months or more and she provided a certain percentage of your living expenses. Not sure how much. I have a teenage daughter who I used to claim. She has always worked. She could claim herself as exempt from taxes because she was a student. I got to claim her for providing a certain percentage of her living expenses.

just me
as long as you didn't pay more than half your own support then yes she can claim you.

If she does... the IRS will send you a letter, calling out your mistake. You end up paying about 100 bucks.

This happened to me last year. Since I was in school and living with them... my step dad claimed me... and I didnt know.

Your mom has every right to claim you if you live with her. She can do that until your 23.
