Can my parents claim me as dependent?
im 25 was a student in college during 2007 lived with them can they claim me or should i claim myself on my returns? i made less than 3000 on 2007

Scotty Doesnt Know
If you lived with your parents for at least half of 2007 and you did not provide more than 50% of your own financial support (which is likely, since you made < $3,000), then they can claim you if they wish.

If they do not wish to claim you, then you can claim yourself. Make sure that no one else can claim you before you try to claim yourself, though. If two taxpayer units (your parents and you) both claim the same person (you), that creates all kinds of headaches that you don't want to deal with.

If you made only $3000 and they provided more than half of your support, then they can claim you as a "qualifying relative."

Arthur R
They almost certainly MAY claim you, so you may not claim yourself.

If your total income is less than 3400, or you are under 18, or under 25 and a full-time student, you meet the income test. As you meet the first one, we don't need to worry about the other ones.

The only other test in question is the support test, and, if you lived in their home, the fair rental value of your room is considered "support", which probably exceeds your contribution to your own support....

yes they can claim you for the last time this year. and you should be making out great since we're all getting a rebate on top of what you get back. I think you get everything you put in back if you make under 7000.

It depends on the situation. I think the cut off is age 24 if the child is in school and 18 if they aren't.

Don't claim yourself. If you made less than $3000 you probably don't need to file.

Check out the IRS website for the tax rules and forms that apply to you. It's actually a pretty easy website to use.

billy m
no, they can't you do not meet the age test. 19 and under or 24 full-time student and under.

You don't have to file your taxes because you didn't make enough income.

Caring girl.
claim yourself.

I think that they can only claim you until you're 18...after that, you're on your own.
