Can someone explain why my tax should go to people who cheat the benefit system?
to the other question before (should I report a benefit cheat) I would like to ask is it ok for all people who work hard that they tax should pay the people who cheat on claiming on the benefit system

The whole benefit system is screwed up.

If someone is cheating they should be reported, but the system is so flawed it encourages cheating.

At the moment new claims can take up to 6 weeks to process. That is a hell of a disincentive to take a temporary job, knowing that at the end of it you will have to wait that long to get any benefit. The temptation is to keep signing on until you get a permanent job.

If you get offerred casual cash in hand on an irregular basis, the benefit system cannot cope with that. They simply do not have the manpower to be able to adjust benefits on a weekly basis. If you tell them that you have done any work they just cancel your claim.

As a single person what you get is barely enough to survive yet a single mother with a new baby gets more than double.

If you are on benefit you get your rent and council tax paid.
On top A single person over 25 gets £59.15
Toilet paper now counts as a luxury!

A single mother gets £59.15 + for each child £47.45 + Family premium £16.43 + child benefit of £18.10

So an 18 year old lass will get £46.85. If she has a baby she gets £141.13.

The household bills haven't changed just because there is a baby yet her income has risen by £94.28. For a 25 year old the increase would be £81.98

A couple with a child only get £33.65 more, so by claiming they don't live together they increase their benefit by £25.50 instantly.

If an 18 year old has her own house and works for 40 hours at minimum wage of £4.60 will earn after tax £161.

Rent and council tax will be at least £61 leaving her £100.

If she has a baby her rent and CT are paid and she is £40 better off. now I know nappies are expensive but...

Of course if she didn't have her own house by getting pregnant she will get one.

Is it a surprise that there are so many single mothers?

If you think that your taxes going to a benefit cheat is bad, take a look at this.

A single mother with 2 kids gets £170.48 plus around £60 HB and CT plus of course child benefit, but everyone gets that. Cost to the treasury £230.40

She now gets a full time job paying £170 after tax and puts her 2 kids in childcare at a cost of £300 a week.

Her working tax credit and family credit are £144.23 a week plus £240 paid for her childcare.
After she has paid her rent and CT and £60 towards child care for working 40 hours and depriving her children of th e best care they could have she is about £25 better off most of which will probably go on her busfares to work.

The cost to the treasury has risen from £230.40 to £384.23, an increase of £153.83 a week.

That is typical of Gordon Brown's mismanagement. Get single parents back to work yet increase the cost to the state!

Now that is something to really get hot under the collar about.

The marxist philosophy that all children should be raised in state institutions quietly being implemented while we pay for it!

like to blame the french but i cant this time. its like with all these people on benefits who only use it to buy drink and drugs. Who are clearly able to work but cant be bothered. Its a shame we cant pick where our taxes go personally. People who have a genuine reason for claiming benefits like singles parents, people with a genuine disability i dont mind them having it.

I don't know, but it's only a question of time before someone blames the Polish...

Yeah! blame the french !!

The truth is that we all know people who choose social security as a career option. If they were made to work for benefits...they'd get a job. No one should support someone who doesn't want to work. Disability benefit is even worse..they get a car! I've no problem with people who are genuinely disabled...I want to help. but the truth is that many are not disabled. They're working the system and taking the piss. You're also paying for the 5 million sick notes... why shouldn't these people work at McDonalds or Tesco? why do they think they're worth more than the people who do.

Who is cheating who! When I paid my national insurance if I became disabled and unable to continue my normal job I qualified for benefits now I have to pass 'the all work test'.

Curiously the questions in this test have nothing to do with work but about your ability to cope at home.

Any insurance company behaving like this would be guilty of fraud!

There are cheats and always will be but the real cheats are those fiddling the expenses system not to mention the idle rich living off us like leeches. Far more of our taxes goes to these people than to the benefit cheats.

Every now and again the government comes up with this when they really mean they are going to reduce the benefits without reducing the taxes

if you believe some one is cheating then report them if they are not then all will be fine

there is a purpose for benefits.
for all you know u might need it one day?? what then??
i know ppl who have worked over 23 yrs, paid all their taxes but having to get benefits now due to health failure.

they never expected anything like that to happen to them.
it could happen to anyone!

so don't complain just because all is going well fr u now!

Maid Angela
The benifit system is there is help less fortunate members of society and the money can only come from taxes. If you do not want that to happen start a political party or pressure group to change the law. If you know someone who is cheating the system you must report them

Something needs to be done soon. It seems so easy for these people to beat the system that more and more people are being sucked in to this life of theft!!

At some point there will not be enough of us tax payers to pay for all the benefits.

I think people should be forced to turn up to a community job (e.g. picking up litter etc.). They should be put into supervised work groups and made to work hard for their money. Children could be put into creches so they couldn't be used as an excuse. I wonder how many people would suddenly be able to find work if being unemployed wasn't the easy option!! Some benefit cheats are now second and third generation. Children see that their parents getting paid for not working, and grow up thinking this is normal Single parents should not be exempt! The reason there are so many single parents is that many girls see having a baby as a career option which is better than getting a job!

I also think that prisoners should be made to work for their keep.

People with genuine disabilities which prevent them from doing any job should be the only ones who get benefit without having to work.

Don't get me started pleeeeeease! I work full time and also run my own business - I pay so much tax and the thought that I am funding sroungers makes my blood boil. Have people got such little respect for themselves that they can do this? The problem is that everytime the government try and do something about it, some doogooder bleats on in their defence. Some members of our society have lost their sense of ambition and self respect.
