1. REFUND. If you do not meet the filing thresholds ($400 self employed, $850 unearned income, $5350 wages - if you are a dependent), then you are not REQUIRED to file a federal income tax return, but you SHOULD file a return to receive a full refund of you withholdings.
If your adjusted gross income was $54,000 or less in 2007, you can use Free File to prepare and e-file your taxes online.
http://www.irs.gov/efile/article/0,,id=118986,00.html
2. REBATE - If your parents claim you as a dependent, you will be ineligible for the rebate, but you may still benefit under the plan.
While the rebate depends on your 2007 status and income, it is actually a rebate toward your 2008 taxes. According to the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008, taxes would be cut in 2008 from 10 percent to zero percent on the first $6,000 dollars of taxable income for individual taxpayers.
So if you have taxable income in 2008, you will see a tax cut when you file in 2009. |

Do you parents claim you ? If yes, then you can't. If you have a job, you can get a refund, if you made enough. |

If you were not claimed on your parents income tax return, if you filed individually. |

Teenagers don't get it if they are claimed by the parents. I have provided a link with lots of info. |

I did a summer camp job (I'm 16) and i got payed minimum wage. Since i wasn't making that much to begin with, i got money sent back from taxes. I did the job in the summer, and i recently sent me back some money that went to taxes. it depends on the job, but most teenages don't make enough for their money to go to taxes |

I work for the IRS and the only way you would be able to get the rebate is if you were not claimed as a dependant on your parents return and made more than $3000 last year. Basicly, if your parents claim you, then no you cant get the rebate |
|

Classy Granny

If you made over 3000 last year and no one claimed you on their return, then yes. If your parents claimed you they will get the 300 credit for your being their dependent. |

If federal income tax was withheld from your paycheck, it's very possible that you can file a return and get some of all of it refunded to you.
As to the stimulus rebate - at 16 you are almost certainly a dependent. Dependents aren't eligible for the rebate, although if you are a dependent of your parents and they receive the rebate, they'll get an additional amount added because they support you. |

if you are not 18, your parents claim you as a deprndent and claim your income..its a plus in a way, they get an extra child tax credit..
Your better off just letting your parents handle it, if your over 18, your on your own and must file your own taxes |

if you're a minor, your parents/legal guardians get it. you have to talk them into giving it to you. it's your money, but not until you're an adult. |
|

Nope. If you are an underage employee they don't take taxes out they just give you all of your money at every check. You start getting taxes when you are 18. I figured that out the hard way. Hope you gett your taxes asap. your parnets claim you until your are the age of 18. sorry. i hope it all works out for you. |

Yes, if you worked, you should have a W-2 for last year. Get a 1040 and fill it out. But if your parents are claiming you, you can't claim yourself. But if you paid more taxes than what the government says you should have paid then yes you get a refund. |
|

jameslankford

yes, if you qualify by making over the limit..you will get a refund |
