They will only take it for debt that relates to the government. Back taxes, child support, student loans, over payments made by workers' compensation, over payments made by social security, etc.

NO , if he owes back taxes, student loan, any type of money to the government, they will take it . Creditors no they can not touch it.

karen w
not unless he owes the goverment

Prophet 1102
No - only for debts you owe the government and child support.

Judy1
It can and will be taken if he owes a government debt like back taxes or defaulted student loans, or owes back child support.

Jennifer
Hi,
I used "Credit Solution" to settle my debt and improve my credit score. They managed to reduce my debt up to 58%.It's legitimate. I came across this company on NBC News Special Edition.Check it out here:

Don't listen to Abigail. Only if he owes the government or has college loans he has not paid.

Ms. Angel..
Did he file his 2007 return, or are you asking so he won't file?
If he owes any government agency, IRS, child support, student loans, yes the rebate will be offset to his debt.

Well, 39 States are garnishing stimulus checks from people who owe back taxes.

So, if you have unpaid taxes or something.

If the collections agencies have jugdements against him then I would think they can garnish either all or a portion of it.

visvardis
they are keeping the ones for deliquent student loans and back child support im not sure where they draw the line

Jss
No, unless it is a government debt.

Yes they can.
My parents had one coming to them, and something went wrong with their taxes last year, so they just deducted the amount from the check automatically.

it depends on how sophisticated the state's debt collection is, and if they report it to the irs. i can now get taken away for back child support, and back state and federal taxes. i'm not positive if this includes regular collections, as the policy is brand spanking new.

*edit. also if you owe student loans

**Edit. CHECK HIS CREDIT REPORT!! creditors are very shisty, and both my husband and i have gotten calls for debt in other family members names, debt we didn't owe, or debt we'd paid off. don't let them bully you, check your report, file a claim against any false information, and if it's valid, call the collection agencies and work out a payment plan. don't live in fear of their calls, take control of the situation.

Yes, my wife owed somebody $100.00 and they took it out of our check. The bad part she didn't even know she had a collection...so she says.
