Yes, Mark, they can. They consider it fraud. Contact the IRS immediately and arrange a repayment schedule. And stick to it. |

DaddyBoy
 |
Yes they can and they will eventually. |

How do you "forget" to pay taxes?????
They will give you a deadline, and if you do not pay by that date, they will take your property.
Better get another job, or start selling things, or you will lose your house. |

Yes, they can certainly put a lien on it. |

You will lose your home if you do not pay your taxes. |

They can put a lien on it and they can also garnish your wages. |

well you have to pay your taxes they will start taking your stuff away and they don't really kid around about stuff like that. Why you weren't paying them in the first place is beyond me.
But anywho pay them back and build your credit up, then and ONLY THEN try to move. |

Not because you forgot - they'd send you a number of reminders before any foreclosure proceedings were started. But from your question, it's not that you "forgot" one year, it's that you still haven't paid it even after you were reminded. And apparently haven't paid this year either. So yes, they can take it. |

dont panic. wait a minute. you mean you didnt pay your property taxes for two years? the city has probably placed a lien on your property. that means that they expect to to collect FIRST when you sell. they are no one to fool with. why dont you just contact them and try to make a payment plan? if you have any equity at all in the house, why not try to free it up with a home equity line of credit and pay that bill off? even with bad credit, try lendingtree.com and see what you can do |

Yes, the government can take away your home if you don't pay your taxes but this would be a last ditch effort. The last thing the government wants to do is make people homeless.
This brings us to the what to do stage.
First, get a tax attorney. There are many firms out that that specialize in your problem.
Second, pull all your tax records going back at least as far as the last time you did pay your taxes.
This gives the attorney and the people he works with something to work with to solve your problem. They may even be able to help solve your credit problem.
Three, work with the tax attorney. Pay the amount he works out for you to pay. Pay ontime after this.
Above all remember, the goverment would rather work out an agreement whereby you are able to pay than to sieze your home and make you homeless. If you are homeless you are costing the government money in the form of homeless shelters and food programs. If you are living in your home and paying back over time what you owe the government is collecting money in the form of taxes it can spend on welfare programs. Thus, it is in the government's best interest to work something out with you and your tax attorney. |

It will be best to pay the taxes. If you default on your property taxes, the city/state can take it and auction it off. |
