Can you get in trouble for showing a fake pay stub?
I went on a interview for a job. I told the interviewer that i made like a 2.50 a hour more than i did. Later in the interview he told me to fax over The pay stub from my last job. I wanted to know can i get in trouble if i changed around my information, and if so can he back track it?

Well, you won't go to jail for it, but either they won't hire you, or if they do will fire you later when they find out what you did.

You will not be in any legal trouble. But trying to deceive a potential employer will not land you a job. Best to be truthful at all times. Then you can sleep well at night.

the prospective employer will quickly discover you are not honest and that may be a very big consideration for your employment
that's the trouble you can get in, you just lost the chance for a job

Why not go for the obvious answer on this one.

Don't expect an offer from that employer. When they call your former employer to verify your dates of employment and pay (something that virtually all employers will share) you're resume will be pitched in the trash.

Asking for prior salary information and then verifying it is a quick and dirty honesty check that virtually every employer runs. I've seen recent new-hires escorted out the door for lying on that.

I've been a hiring manager in the past and always verified that. Minor deviations were OK (1 or 2 percent, no sweat. 10 percent, BIG sweat.) but when it was obvious that someone had lied outright (or worse, provided false documentation such as you did) they were toast. If we learned about the subterfuge after they started, they were ALWAYS terminated for cause. If we learned about it beforehand, they never got an offer.

Yes you can get in trouble because he will check into it! I was a boss for many years and when I hired someone I always check to make sure that they weren't lying to me. I did not want liars working for me, there's no trust if they lie.
When you send a copy of your REAL check stub just let him know that you made a mistake in your judgement of you pay rate!
