Can you get your cell phone taken off your taxes if it is used for business? or can you get a reduced rate?
the cell phone bill is outrageous because someone in my household is a cable bill collector.

csabrinam
Yes u can deduct it from your taxes, but it is possiable to be audited!! Irs is strict on that being a deduction. They prefere ur land line to be deducted instead of the cell. They shouldnt even be using the cell in the first place to be doing collection calls. If so get Cricket!! Get a land line, it will be less of a red flag if u deduct that then ur cell, especially if it's outrageous.

you can deduct taxes on your cell phone bill if it used for business purposes. You can't get rid of taxes. The government won't allow it. But you can deduct it from your income when you do your taxes.

The answer to your first Q is YES. The answer to your second Q is, possibly through the phone company in bubling, etc.
It may be that the IRS views cell phones differently, and if your business isn't strictly licensed, incorporated, listed in a phone book as a business,,, you'd have to prove the minutes used.

The outrageous part of the detail is confusing, and certainly that SOMEONE should have the responsibility for the bill, and having ittaken care of through the IRS or other means.

misslabeled
There are some things where using a cell phone just isn't at all smart. Being a bill collector is probably one of them. Tell that person in your household to use a land line. It would be MUCH cheaper.

I think you are going about this wrong.

If the phone is being used for business, then the user should be reimbursed by his employer. This isn't really a tax question.

I always write mine off because I use it for work. So to answer your question you can write it off of your taxes. Only if it is used for work not personal use. Ask your tax guy how to start doing that.

teddybar67
Yep, keep all your phone bills and it is 100% tax write off.
