Can you write off your animals food on your federal taxes?
Only if it's a business. If you're a breeder, a vet, or use dogs in the course of your business then that would be a ligit business expense. But for family pets, no chance.
NOT READY TO GIVE IN JUST YET!
I do.(After I pay rent and buy prescriptions, I can only afford cat food.)

If it's part of your business, it can be deductible.
Animal food could be deductible if you run an animal shelter, or you're a professional breeder.
Here's an excerpt from an article about business expenses:
"One stripper had her day in court and convinced the judge that a breast enlargement operation was a legitimate business expense."

If you are in a business for profit with the animals, like dog breeding or farming, you can. Otherwise, no.

Only if it's a business expense, ie: Animal Shelter.
