Johnny's Mommy | Claiming daycare on your tax returns? |
What's the process on this? Can you claim the daycare costs if your child was at any daycare (licensed/unlicensed)?
Just curious. (Yeah, I'm already thinking of tax time. I must be bored.)
Thanks. |

Yes!
I have been thinking about this since the beginning of the year....it will be a HUGE write-off for us this year and the money will be soooooooo nice. |

Yes, any daycare.
If you had someone watch him for you that wasn't licensed, you just need their SS number and some kind of documentation of how much you paid them. I give all my daycare families a "Statement of Childcare Payment" which states that they paid me X amount of dollars for the year- - - -.
Otherwise ask for the daycare tax ID number. |

Yes, as long as you have the daycare's tax ID number. |

They will give you an end-of-the year statement that includes the amount you paid and their tax ID number, it's pretty simple. : ) |

They do ask for the daycare providers federal id number. |

I would contact a professional at tax time because I believe that any childcare can be tax deductable as long as you have receipt documentation. Enjoy that big refund this year! |

That's funny that you ask. I had no clue you could do that, I only found out because I started taking my daughter to a regular daycare facility when she was 1 1/2, on an as-needed basis when our regular sitter wasn't available. They handed out the receipts in January, with their ID# and the total you had paid them for the previous year. I asked my accountant about it when I got my taxes done, and sure enough I could claim it, and ended up getting about half of what I had spent back in my refund! I can't do that with my regular sitter though, she is just a SAHM who watches my daughter, and she doesn't report the 'income'. Some people do though, I think our current 'backup' sitter does report hers and hand out receipts so you can claim it. I'd just ask Johnny's daycare about it. |

Yes you can claim even if they aren’t licensed. My son was babysat by a SAHM when he was first born. I couldn’t claim her on taxes because I needed her employee ID number (she didn’t have one) or her social in order to do so. We kind of agreed she wouldn’t claim it as income and I wouldn’t claim her either.
Now with my in-home daycare, registered, but not licensed, she printed up a form of how much we spent at her daycare and gave her name, address and ID number so we could all claim. |
