They might do it on a sliding scale dependant on the size of engine, but between 30 and 45 pence is about the going rate. |

i get 30p a mile, which more than covers my petrol if you just think about petrol, but im sure it doesnt cover most of the wear and tear on my car if i think about that, i.e 4 new tyres at £40 a tyre because they are worn down with all the miles... |

they can pay as much or little as they like but you can claim back 40p /mile from inland revenue against any tax liability you have but do it your self as using an accountant would wipe out any benifit you get |

It's; 40p per mile for fuel and wear and tear on the vehicle
So most of the time you'll probably make some money if you've got a small car.
If you've got a Range Rover or American car i suggest using the Company Van |

My company pay 12p a mile, because we also get a car allowance. The government then give us tax relief to make it up to 40p a mile (ie the other 28p per mile), by filling in a P87 at the end of the tax year.
This indicates 40p a mile is reasonable for your employer to pay. |

In UK basically it's a matter for the employer, but for tax purposes expenses such as these can be accounted for under "per diem" (per day) rules. I think it's a limit so that wages or fees can't be passed off as expenses. For mileage I think the IR set 40p a mile. |

The inland revenue guidelines say 40p permile which can be reclaimed speak to Acas and these will give you all the laws that you need they are very helpful people |

At a minimum the employer should pay the exact rate that the IRS allows as a deduction. Currently 48.5 cents per mile. |
