College student claimed as dependent... stimulus for parents?
I can't find the answer I'm looking for directly so I figured I'd ask. Here's the situation: I'm 22 and a full-time college student (living with parents). They were told to claim me as a dependent because they normally do each year on their taxes. The question I'm asking is will they get any stimulus for claiming me? I'm not wondering if *I'll* get the money, I didn't make enough to qualify for myself. I'm just wondering if my parents will get that money?
Additional Details
I get full financial aid. My parents pay for nothing. Also, I only made $2500 being a student worker. I knew I wouldn't get anything myself since it's under that $3000 mark. I was just curious to see if they would get any extra for me.

No. Dependents over age 17 don't qualify for the stimulus.

no. at least in my state the child had to be 17 or younger in order for parents to get a stimulus check on them. i just had turned 18, so my parents didnt get the money for me! which is really lame if u ask me.

Your parents will get an exemption of $3,400 for you. If their income qualifies, they may receive Earned Income Credit because of you.

You do not qualify your parents for an additional stimulus payment. Since your exemption may reduce their taxes, their stimulus payment may actually be reduced because of your exemption.

Qualifications for the stimulus payment are fully described on irs.gov.

Parents only get extra for kids under age 17, so no they don't get extra stimulus money for claiming you. They most likely do save some income tax though.

i think you would have to be 16 or under for them to get money for you

They will not get a stimulus payment for you because you can not get it for dependents over the age of 17. And you will not get it because somebody else claimed you.

Jss
Dependents will not get the rebate. Your parents will not get extra for you as you are over 16 in 2007. You may get rebate when you file your 2008 tax return.

If you do not receive full amount of $600 now, then you may get the balance amount when you file your 2008 return, and you become eligible for the tax rebate.

I think they can claim you as a dependent if you are a full time student, and are under 21. Check with the IRS about this. You will get a tax stimulus check yourself, only if you filed an income tax return with enough income to qualify. You can find all these answers on the IRS web site.

We do Not know what your parents AGI was on their tax form ,
We have no way of knowing .
Ask your parents if they got it . . .
Except that is very nosy about their business . . .

If you worked at all and filed taxes, they might get something, but probably not much.

I'm 25 and filed as a dependent with my boyfriend - but I only worked part time and didn't make enough to get a stimulus, or for him to get anything for me. We got like $400 something for the both of us, but really just for him.

I would say that if you were 18 or younger, living with them, they would get money for you regardless of whether or not you worked, but since you're 22, unless you made more than the minimum amount to qualify, your parents won't get anything for you.

beca_313
yes, they will, as well they should since your still living in their house and my guess is they're paying for school, no you won't get the money, unless they want to give it to you.
