councils do not normally house people any more it is done by housing associations and I earn £18,000 and live in an housing association flat.

I got it 2 months ago, it is a new build and both myself and my wife work. You do not have to tell them when you get a job anyway as long at least as you do not already own a home. They will house you to your needs, demand and appropriate properties available.
The housing association is not just for the jobless, single parent but for everyone who has no ownership to a home.

It does not depend on if you are working and ur income. Surely this is a good thing! The council don't just house unemployed single parents.I was recently a council tenant with a joint income of 30k. Surely u would no longer be homeless though if u had a wage coming in? You can still be on a waiting list if u house yourself privately, but obviously if you were no longer homeless this may effect you position on the list.

That would not be a problem. You are supposed to work for a living when you have a council house

Yes they would still give you a house, but you wouldn't be classed as being in urgent need, because they (the council) would reckon that you could rent a house if you earned that kind of money.

The Citizens Advice Bureau will give you all the answers you need.

You would probably get bumped down the list as you would be earning a wage therefore in the council's eyes you would be able to pay to rent somewhere privately. ( although how anyone on under £30,000pa can afford some of the rents i've seen is beyond me!)

If there is just you & 1 child you will only be offered a 2 bedroom property though.

Well they would prob give you a budgeting loan for the money to hold a flat/house. It depends on a number of factors

i dont know for sure and i dont mean to turn a joke out of your situation, as i was in it once (albeit the kid), but i would say diffinately not. this country doesn't give you anything. my mum was told it would mean we were on our own, even if it was 10hours p/w. you might get a 2 bedroom flat if you were lucky when working, but you would go down the list i think, if its still like that. in your situation, my advice would be to claim as for as many things as you can, thats what everyone else seems to do.
your obviously not one of the dosser who dont do anything or you wouldn't be asking, as they know the system inside out, so i know its sitting on your bum, but let the state pay for it, they wont help you with much else!
