What name was on the tenancy agreement? If it was just yours then yes you are reasonable for whoever else lives within that property, as far as Council Taxis concerned. The council will backdate if they find out council tax was only paid for one person. Her immigration status is irrelevant in this case. Your only liable for the time you lived at the property. |

Get legal advice. you may be liable for most of it but certainly i wouldn't of thought for when you wasn't there. thats not your responsibility. i wouldn't pay them until you get advice there may be a loophole hope this helps |

Not a council tax expert but i would get legal advice here mate. You shouldnt have to pay for when you werent even there, you can get free advice from the cab or go to the council offices and enquire good luck |

everyone saying get advice is correct, visit yor local social services or citzens advice and ask to see a Welfare Rights Officer.
Simply you are NOT liable for this whole amount. If your council don't accept their is joint liability then you technically lived alone, therefore your CT bill is cut by one quarter. You are not liable when you didn't live there.
there may also be technical details that are important, eg how you were notified of the decsision, which determine whether or nor arrears are recoverable. seek advice from a welafre rights office as above which is free and I am sure will be worth your while. |

Seek legal advice as you may not have to pay the full amount as one person was not earning, however I am not well up on council tax.

You are only liable from the time you lived there. |

You are almost certainly liable for the time you were living together. If the children are yours or if you were her sponsor when she entered the UK then you are liable. Perhaps time to see a solicitor |
