star | Council tax plzzzzzz? |
does any1 know what 2 write in a letter to council to ask to make monthly payments for council tax.
i owe it and they passed it 2 bailiffs (which on the letter they put through) says from the council its not from a bailiff company.
i want to pay the council. if i write them a letter and send £200 for my first monthly payment will that tempt them into accepting my £200 payments each month?
plz? |

They'll snap it up, for sure. BUT! beware of making an offer that you cannot stick to, because then they really will hit you with everything, including a possible prison sentence. Its better to make a slightly lower offer and really stick to it religiously than to make a high offer and renege after one or two payments.
Call the recovery section, or go in and see them, get someone's name and make sure they will always be dealing with your case. If you ever can't make a payment, call them and explain in advance. |

Hey
My brother's had probs with his Council Tax and the Bailiff company never listen and demand silly amounts of money. He rang the recoveries dept at his council and they set up a direct debit for him straight away. I would ring them to arrange before you send any money. It will be easier and less hassle long term.

you can call then directly and sort it out, they would much rather receive the payments from you than pay a third party for gaining the payments. |

Don't know the whole facts of your case, but just write politely to the Council and tell them you appreciate you owe the amount claimed but are not in a position to pay it all at once and would they accept monthly payments of £200. Keep a copy of your letter in case it goes to Court because you can then produce the letter and prove you made an offer if it is rejected. I am sure the Court will take into account the fact you have made anm offer to them. Good Luck. |

call them directly and explain your situation and what you are willing to pay, they can be understanding if you show that you are willing to make an effort |

Ring the Council TaxDept at the local council - DO NOT speak to anyone except the Dept Head - explain why you fell behind and ask them direct - they will say Yes or No.
Most councils have been told to be more accomodating now - so you may get the result from a 5 minute call. If not, then write your letter - BUT send it to the Chief Executive of your council and send it registered/signed for - then you know it gets there.
In the letter just explain why you fell behind and what you want to do to remedy the situation - and make the offer as you have detailed to clear the balance |
