DOES ANY ONE HAVE IDEA ABOUT A LIMITED COMPANY, WHO MAKES PAY ROLL FOR AGENCY Workers?
hI all,
i am a health professional working in NHS through the agency. I am working for my agency but my pay roll being made by a limited company, they charge me 27.50 per week. even if i work 8-10 hours.
i think this is not fair. suposse i earn 80 pounds per week they deduct 27.50 and i get the rest. i know this is rubbish. i would not mind if i was working full time.
can you help please?????????????

What does the contract say? Are you sure this is not tax and NI contributions - there are special rules for agency staff where they are controlled by the agency - see the link

This has been set up by the agency and you can not do much to change it because they may be taking their cut too. Its slavery. Your only option is to find a full time job or an agency that does their own pay roll.

I've never heard of this before surly its the agencies responsibility to pay their payroll costs. I would contact citizens advice.

You need to be speaking with your colleagues/supervisor/line manager or human resources because you have obviously signed up for something you are unaware of

It sounds to me as if this is the tax they are deducting from your wages on code BR - basic rate. You need to contact HMRC through the helpline - see www.hmrc.gov.uk for the number and they will send you the necessary forms to sort your tax out. You will need your National Insurance number when you ring.

Hedge Witch
I presume you had a contract and that was in it when you joined the agency?
Surely you saw what the charges were then and made sure you could afford them?
Sorry - but if you didn't do so it really is your own fault.
If you DON'T have a contract - you can just go to another agency. If you are a contractor there are several companies (sorry don't recall their names particularly) who offer different payment methods.
One offers to do all the payroll stuff for a percentage of each paypacket - it may be worth looking out for someone like that in your position.

The Great Escape
Am I right in thinking that this is their weekly admin fee?

If so, I would hold back a timesheet for just a few hours and include it the following week, hence just one admin charge. Or go onto fortnightly or monthly pay if possible.

Best to speak with them.

Check also that you are compliant with IR35 legislation

You don't say exactly what you are doing as a health professional. What I do know is that, especially in an IT environment, it is common to work through an agency and be paid by a seperate "umbrella" company. This means that expenses, such as travelling, subsistence, accommodation when away from home, can all be deducted from your pay. You only then pay tax on what is left. Expenses are then reimbursed to you. £27.50 per pay run is about the average.

Example:
Gross pay £1,000
Admin Fee £27
Travel travel 400 miles @ 40p £160
Subsistence (away from home
over 10 hours) 5 day @ £15 £75
Taxable Pay £738

Tax & NI (GUESS) £175
Net Pay £563
Add Expenses £235
Cheque £798

Does this make sense?
