Did George W Bush Destroy the Stock Market?

While it would be a stretch to say that Bush is solely responsible -- and I'm no fan of his at all -- he was at the helm of the ship when it ran aground.

No. It's called a business cycle. It's inevitable and there is nothing we can do but live through the recession. Sure some may say Bush made mistakes and things could have been prevented but there is no such thing of a country being at the peak forever. Everyone is bound to fall at some point.

LadyZania
No the Federal Resserve Banksters did, and it was by design. But, Georgie is on their team.

NO, ABSOLUTELY NOT! Only a retard who has no actual understanding of the business world would make a statement like that. There are limitless factors that control the stock market. Usually it's poor management on the part of business. But even when we do everything right, we can still fall on bad times. It's just part of the cycle. To try to blame it on the President is just ignorant. Right now China is doing everything right. At least as far as business. They are doing what we did back in the turn of the century last century. They are industrializing, while our businesses are trying to rid themselves of the problems of building our own products. They are making better profits for themselves, but less for the country.

Manuel
Wrong Bostonia, while President Bush was at the helm of the government, he was NOT at the helm of industry. He did not control business and was never at the helm of it. Business is privately owned, not government owned. If we were a communist country, like Cuba or China I might agree with you. But you are fundamentally wrong.

The stock market was destroyed by a lot of greedy people on wall street and also sitting at home hoping it would make them rich...and also the banks that were forced by Federal Laws to loosen their standard and give people loans on "stated income" with no documentation on how they could pay......cause the CONGRESS wanted everyone to be able to buy a home no matter what their ability to repay was. They forced the banks to give these loans, now the banks are STUCK with them....and they are of course in foreclosure now. George Bush was the President. The CONGRESS is very powerful....life long LAWYERS that sit up there and suck off the people. They get big bucks for running their mouths with a lot of nonsense as far as what the little people like me and my family want or have to pay for. Sorry, I don't agree with your question that Bush, Clinton, or any other Prez made this. Cheers.

Jack O.
Yes Manuel, I agree with you. Bostonian is wrong of course. If we want to blame our government, then Bostonian should at least get it right. Our congressmen and Senators have much more input, control and influence over business than the president has. They actually make the changes, laws and policies that pertain to business. Not the president. So if we want to blame anyone in the government, at least point our fingers in ther right direction. Bostonian, you should have known that!

Serena
Lol, in a nutshell, no. While outside influences can indeed influence the stock market, the President of the United States does not control it. Perception in the minds of stockholders can influence the status of the market. The market should have risen fairly dramatically when Obama won if perception of a President had any actual effect.

There are many more influences on the market other than the President. The president is but a small part of it. In previous years, it was always considered a good thing for the economy and stock market when the United States was engaged in a war. So according to that theory, if President Bush had any influence on the stock market it should have been for the better.

The American people, just as people in all other countries of the world would rather find an easy scapegoat such as President Bush, rather than face the reality that we all have hurt the stock market. Every time we buy a Honda, Toyota, Hyundai, Lexus, Acura, or any other foreign car we are doing devastating damage to our economy. Even if the car is actually built in the United States, because the profit ultimately leaves the United States and ends up in Japan or Korea. We buy other products that are built in China rather than the United States. We outsource our work. We are doing it to ourselves. Nothing will ever get better if we fail to see that we are damaging our country. To try to blame it on the president rather than face reality will be our ultimate downfall.
