In the Clutch | Didn't file Taxes in 2008? Where do i go from here? |
Yeah i didn't file taxes this year. I was 17-18 last year and i didn't work the full year. But i was working full time for awhile only making around minimum wage. So i dont have a clue as to what i do now. Do i file late? Do i forget about it? Do i file next year? If i file next year do i have to do something different because its for 2007? Any help is appreciated. I'm so confused with this process. |

Call the IRS or go to their website and ask them if you had to file. If you didn't, then file a late return. You probably won't owe any taxes at all, and anything you do owe them (interest and penalties) would be deducted from what they owe YOU.
NEVER ignore a tax problem.
The IRS offices are happy to help you file your taxes if you take all your information to them. IT'S FREE. GO. |

If you are required to file, you must file. Do not wait for next year. If you owe any tax, you must pay with interest and penalty.

File immediately...if you owe taxes, there could be fines and interest building up the longer you wait. If the IRS owes you money, you want it back earlier than later anyway (and no, the IRS does not pay interest on money they owe to you). |

2008 tax returns are due by April 15, 2009. You have even received your w2/1099 tax information yet.
Maybe you are stating you didn't file your tax return for 2007. If so then file now. Don't forget about or ignore it. Because if you file 2008 before filing 2007 IRS will hold your 2008 refund if one is due to you until you file 2007.
Visit IRS website www.irs.gov on how to file your tax return and where to mail the return once you have it completed.
Or visit IRS local walk in office for assistance in filing. |

Go to the IRS website and download 2007 forms. You probably only need a 1040EZ form. Fill it out and mail it in.
In February 2009, file a 2008 tax return. You can pick up forms and instructions from your library in January. |

File as soon as possible. You don't want the interest (or the worry) piling up. Fortunately, most people who file late taxes are more likely than average to get a refund -- so you should hurry up and collect the money you owe now, rather than have a headache later. |

You can file for 2008 now. You will probably get a refund. |
