Diffrent pay rates?
i started a new job in july this year.and when i got the job.my manager said to me he will start me off onthe lowest rate,
of pay.£16,500.and i am on probation.wich ends in january 08
will my pay go up.or will i have to ask for a rise.also people doing the same job has me.are getting £3,000.more than me.
so if my manager does not say anything about a rise at my last probation.should i bring up.and if i do bring it up what rights do i have.because my manager said to me at the interview.that he will start me off on £16,000.and that sounded to me like when i end my probation.it would be review.what do all you people out there think.i would like to hear from people that this has happen to thanks

Its not law, its dependent on the company / manager unless there is a union involved.
When your probation is over ask for the extra £3000, and if your doing the same amount of work you should get it

I depends.
He opened the debate by telling you that he would start you off on the lowest rate, so when your probationary period ends, don't be afraid to bring it up again.
Don't be shy, don't be pushy, just discuss the matter like an adult.
Everybody knows we work for a salary, and everybody knows that good work deserves a raise.
If some other employees earn up to 3000 more than you, then you should expect at least 1000 more at the end of probationary period, with possibility to go up another 1000 in six months or one year's time.

your new rate of pay should be on your contract that you will sign after your probation

you should have to sign a contract and that will explain your new rate of pay happy new year

Your contract should specify any pay increase points - some firms have annual increments to reward experience, others may want you to prove certain skills to gain extra salary. You need to clarify what your situation is, and then if necessary have examples of times when you have performed well to bring into the conversation.

I think you need to check with your manager. Unless you have a written contract that says you will have a pay rise in January you are relying on the managers good faith.

Just talk to him about it. You'll be surprised that that is the only way to get the answer

As a general rule, you are on probation for six months. This is to give your employers an idea of whether or not you are suitable for the job. Usually too you are provided with a six-month Contract of Employment but it is worth you while to have a good read of it. It should say somewhere what should happen next.

Depending on the Company policy, the general rule is that you and your Manager will have a meeting to discuss whether you are a worthy candidate for a permanent position. If you have met all the criteria such as good time keeping, a high standard of work and your face fits, it is possible you will be invited to become a permanent member of staff. It also gives you a chance too to decide whether or not this is a company you would like to and can work for and with.

Make an appointment with your Manager BEFORE the final date of your probationary period. Listen to what he/she has to say and be courteous and professional with your replies.
If your Manager does not want you to stay on, be prepared to accept what is said graciously but on the other hand, if they would like you to remain, be polite.

I remember a youngster who had been on a six month probationary contract showed her true colours after three months and when she was advised her contract would not continue once her time had come to an end, was dismissive and downright rude to her employer. She was not prepared to accept the constructive criticism or even be gracious and stormed out of the building without so much as a goodbye or thank-you. She was furious and in the end, it served her no useful purpose.

Please do not take this route yourself. You need to maintain dignity even in defeat if indeed this does happen to you. On the other hand if you are invited to continue employment, please say an appreciative "thank-you" to your Manager - this is most important.

If the answer is "yes", talk to your Manager about a pay increase and find out at the same time, what other perks there may be if you continue to prove yourself a worthy member of the team. Maintain high standards and time-keeping always. Be an asset to the company and hopefully you will be rewarded. Again this depends on company policy but does no harm in finding out.

May I also urge you NOT to talk about salary with other members of staff - it is none of their business what you receive anyway. It is a subject that often brings out the worst in others because they are jockeying for the best position. At the end of the day, it is the quality and standard of your work that is important and will be noticed by those in a more senior position.

May I wish you all good things.

Depends on how your probation goes, I would ask directly providing he has said he is happy with your performance, if he says no ask for targets to achieve within an agreed timescale resulting in a payrise if acheived!

ben dover
he will probably just sack you??
you sound a right pain
