Disability living allowance?
I receive the high rate for the care component for my 4 year old son who has severe developmental delay and learning difficulties.

I was told when my son turned 3 i could apply for the mobility part too,i recently phoned to ask for a form to be sent out and the woman i spoke to said i wouldn`t be entitled to it for my son as he isn`t disabled and can walk.

Although he can walk he is being assessed for dyspraxia and he can be quite clumsy and falls over alot when out,he gets anxious when out in busy places and has absoloutly no sense of danger and is fascinated with wheels and cars and would shoot right onto the road in a second, this is why i need to get taxi`s most places.

I was just wondering if anyone could advise me if i may be entitled to the mobility part too, answers appreciated, thanx.

From the age of 3 a child with severe mobility issues or 100% blind can get mobility allowance but children who can not perceive danger etc are not eligible until they are 5. I think this may include your son. Have a look at www.direct.gov.uk/DisabledPeople. I would always s recommend downloading an application form and giving it a go - good luck

I really don't know. I would wait until he has had his assessment and the results then apply again. Tell the woman that you want a form to try for the mibility part anyway.
I feel for you, it must be very hard coping - especially with the cost of taxis. The DLA people will want a report from you Doctor before they make the final decision - which may be different to what the woman on the phone told you.
Good luch and all the best.

Get the form and get in touch with a charity that deals with your son's disability - they will have advice on how to fill the form in to get the mobility omponent.

technically to get the highest rate your sone needs to be unable to walk or virtually unable to walk.

But for the lower rate you should be OK - I kow deaf people who get it.

Sorry, but it seems that with children who are not wheelchair bound are not entitled to Mobility component until they are at least over the age of 5.

My husband got the higher rate of Mobility after he had 2 strokes and like your son he could walk but his balance was all over the place. I think whoever you spoke to was wrong, apply again.
