Do I HAVE to fill out my W2 form at work or can I bring it home to fill out?
Most of the time, when I apply for a job, my employer wants me to fill out the W2 form on the spot and would not let me bring it home. Is it required by Law for me to fill out these forms on my employer's premise?

I don't understand taxes and perhapses if I don't make it my profession, I guess I never will. Right now I'm being taxed about 20% out of my paycheck. I'm not sure if it's average or are they taking too much.

Would it be possible for me to take my W2 forms home and bring it to one of the H&R Block Tax Representatives to help me fill out the forms? Will they do that? How much do you think they will charge? Do H&R Block do this kind of stuff?

Goes to show that I know nothing about taxes. I think it's a W4, or maybe W2. One of the two. It's the form that I have to fill out claiming dependent. I put a 5 at the ending total.

I'm 25, single, no kids and am head of my house hold. Typical bachlaor.

the W-2 form is given to you at the end of the year, to show you, and for you to report your earnings for that year to the state and federal government.

Your W-4, is simply to inform your payroll department how much you would like withheld from each check to go to these agencies.

There is no law that states you must fill these out at the work site, but they are a very simple form to fill out. Keep in mind, that it's not something that you have to fill out in a certain way, rather, it's a guideline, to help you select how much you want to have deducted for taxes, which if you have a good idea of how much you should owe at the end of year, you can figure it out pretty easily.

Also, keep in mind, you can change your w-2 on file often if you'd like, to reflect any changes in your income from other sources, or just based on wanting to have more, or less withheld each period.

It's a W-4 form. And there's no law that you can't bring it home to fill out, although employers usually want it done right away so they have you fill it out while you are at work.

If you put 5, unless you have a very high list of itemized deductions or adjustments, you're going to end up owing a lot when you file your return. For tax purposes, you are NOT head of household - that's a tax filing status for someone who provides the expenses for a home for a dependent child living with them, or for certain other dependents. As a "typical bachelor" you should claim one allowance, or if you only have one job, you might get away with claiming two. NOT five.

The W4 form is not that complicated. Call the I.R.S. ahead of time if you have any questions so you'll be prepared and can fill it out without scratching your head. No reason to call H&R Block when the I.R.S. will give you more accurate answers without charging you.

I don't think there's a law that you have to fill it out on the premises but you'll look like a dork if you don't.

You are filling out a W4 form not a W2. The form can be very confusing. The only part of the form that has to be filled out is the small section that is underneath the dotted line (front side). The rest of the form is an optional worksheet. Line 5 on the form is your exemption and you can claim either 0 or 1. Line 6 is if you want any additional money taken out of your pay. If you are getting big refunds from the IRS at the end of the year then you are taking out too much because of your W4 form at work. State W4 forms are similar. You can ask H and R Block for assistance and you can also go on-line and ask your question on Ask.com. Lastly, you can not file your income taxes as Head of Household because you have no qualifying child. You have to file as Single.

HR Block will usually do this free. it takes but a minute.
You can ask your employer if you can take the W2 home, but you have to realize they need this back ASAP.
Don't delay in doing it.It could hold up your pay.

I hope you mean the W4 form. Your W2 is the form you receive w/ your wages at year's end.

stephenweinstein
It is a W-4. You can print one yourself (they are at http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw4.pdf in English and http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw4sp.pdf in Spanish) in advance and bring it to whomever you want for assistance. After you finish, bring the completed form to work and copy the numbers onto the form that the employer will not allow to leave the workplace.

Doesn't really matter. If you fill out the W-4 wrong, you can submit a revised one at any time.

This was taken from IRS website

IRS Withholding Calculator

Purpose of This Computer Program The purpose of this application is to help employees to ensure that they do not have too much or too little income tax withheld from their pay. It is not a replacement for Form W-4, but most people will find it more accurate and easier to use than the worksheets that accompany Form W-4. You may use the results of this program to help you complete a new Form W-4, which you will submit to your employer.

Tips For Using This Program

Have your most recent pay stubs handy.
Have your most recent income tax return handy.
Fill in all information that applies to your situation.
Estimate values if necessary, remembering that the results can only be as accurate as the input you provide.
Consult the information links embedded in the program whenever you have a question.
Print out the final screen that summarizes your input and the results, then use it to complete a new Form W-4 (if necessary), and keep it for your records.
Who Can Benefit From This Application?

Employees who would like to change their withholding to reduce their tax refund or their balance due;
Employees whose situations are only approximated by the worksheets on the paper W-4 (e.g., anyone with concurrent jobs, or couples in which both are employed; those entitled to file as Head of Household; and those with several children eligible for the Child Tax Credit);
Employees with non-wage income in excess of their adjustments and deductions, who would prefer to have tax on that income withheld from their paychecks rather than make periodic separate payments through the estimated tax procedures.
For Special Situations If your situation is among those listed below, you will probably achieve more accurate withholding by following the instructions in Publication 919, How Do I Adjust My Tax Withholding?

If you will be subject to alternative minimum tax, self-employment tax, or other taxes; or
If any of your current jobs will end before the end of the year.

NOTE: The information you provide is anonymous and will only be used for purposes of this calculation. It will not be shared, stored or used in any other way, nor can it be used to identify the individual who enters it. It will be discarded when you exit this program.

You can bring it home. I think it just makes them easier to have it all done at one time - but there's no law. I used to be given a packet to bring home & fill out, the W-2 being one form in there.

Typically you can't mess up a W2 form. Unless you checked off "yes, i'm married with kids" and you aren't. If the government takes out too much taxes you get a larger income tax return. If the government doesn't take out enough, you get a bill instead.

Tell, him you would like some close to you or parents to help, that you would be more, comfortable, with some you know to help you! And then let the person, know that would be right back, the next day, he should trust you, as you are trusting him!
