Do I count as Unemployed or Self-Employed?
I'm a writer. I hardly make any money yet but I'm keeping at it. I live with my dad at age 21 and dropped out of college. I have no other paid job. I'm not actively looking for work. I'm not lazy though. At least I don't think I am. I keep in shape by working out 2-3 hours a day.

You wouldn't show up in the unemployment statistics because you aren't looking for work.

Your unemployed if you don't have a job.
If your getting paid for writing then the person who pays you , you work for them. So that would be employed.
If your a freelance writer, meaning you do your own marketing and sell your work, then your self-employed,

If you earn any money as a writer, you are self-employed. You must file tax return if your income is $400 or more.
Even if you small amount of money as a writer, you are still unemployed unless writing is your full time job.
Read about self employed taxes: http://taxipay.blogspot.com/2008/04/tax-filing-by-self-employed-sole.html

you are a writer but do not get any money from writing. You are not working for money for any individual, firm or corporate. So you are surely
unemployed.

Heather B
I would say you're unemployed

Unemployed.

You are not in the Labor Force because you are not actively searching for a job. If you were, you would be considered unemployed.
