Do I have to File my TAXES????
I worked part time and only made $2665.50 this year. Do I have to file? I'm also claiming a dependent, head of household, and I'm a part time student. Does this make a difference???

Jen
you may be surprised on how much you get back. if that dependent is your child or your over 24, you can get the Earned income tax credit and a child tax credit. you may also be able to claim school expenses too. you can go to the IRS website and do your taxes for free and they make it pretty painless. you may have more money then you think on your way.

are you crazy? deffinatly file! I have the same situation as you and I got $4,000 dollars back!! way more than I paid in. You get money for being a student money for haveing a kid and money for being head of houshold. Deffinatly file!

Sweet n Sour
you don't have to file, you didn't make enough income. BUT you might want to file so you will be eligible for a refund, or earned income credit.

Yes. You have to file. You may be surprised at the amount you get back. Working part time and being head of household, you have probably overpaid your taxes.

somg_93
Yes, you do. You may not get much back but you will get something back. If you would have made 1170 less then you would not have to. Be sure to include any income you get other than work.

bostonianinmo
You don't have to file based on your income. However you should file to get a refund of any income tax withheld. You may also be eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit and will have to file to get that.

You haven't provided enough information to say for sure if you're eligible for HoH status (though it doesn't matter at your income level) or the EITC. And if YOU are claimed as a dependent on another taxpayer's return, you can't claim any dependents or the EITC yourself.

You will still get a pretty good refund back. You can get a free estimate from these people below.

No, you don't have to file unless $400 or more of that income is from self-employment. But you probably should to get a refund of anything you have coming.

You don't say who the dependent is. If it's your child or a close relative, you can possibly file as head of household, but you'd have to show that you provided over half the cost of keeping up the home, which might be kind of hard to show if that's your whole income. If the dependent is someone other than a close relative, you can't file as head of household.

If you are not a dependent yourself of someone else, you might be eligible for the EIC. For that, you'd have to have a dependent child, or else be at least age 25 and not over 64. If you are a dependent, then you can't claim a dependent, which wouldn't matter except for EIC since you won't pay any taxes anyway.

Legally you have to. If not after a while they will hunt you down and rape you... I mean...set you to the righ. Which means somehow you suddenly owe them way more than you really should.
