Do I have to file taxes?
I am 20 years old (almost 21) and live with my parents (dont rub it in). I make roughly between $250-$320 a week ($9.50 an hour) do I have to file taxes? what is the minimum amount of money I have to make each year to to file for taxes?

Yes you must file. It doesn't matter if you make no money, you are still required to file. Chances are, you will get a refund anyways.

Yes you have to file. You are far over the limit for a dependent ($5350) or non-dependent ($8750) to have to file.

Unless you are a full time student, you are too old for your parents to claim you as a dependent, no matter how much of your support they provide. Even if you are a full time student, they can't claim you if you provide over half of your own support.

If you are single, you have to file. If you make $250 or more during at least 50 of the 52 weeks of the year (I am allowing 2 weeks unpaid for vacation or holidays or whatever), you make at least $10,000 per year. If you make that much and are single, you have to file.

If you are married, your obligation to file is determined by your combined income (you and your spouse), not yours alone.

Are you in school?

If yes, you can make $5350 before you owe taxes (less if you have non-wage income).
If no, you can make $8750 before you owe taxes.

yes you do you have earned income

You have to file your own taxes because of your income. If your gross wages exceeds $8,750 then you are required to file your federal and state taxes for 2007. You would claim yourself and your parents can not claim you on their tax returns.

Yes you file and that is a good thing, because your income is low enough that you will get most if not all of your federal taxes withheld back as a refund. You claim yourself and your parents are no longer entitled to that.

Crank
yes buddy. You must file your taxes :( you'll pay very limited taxes.

As a dependent, if you make over $5350 for the year you must file.

If you made under $5350, you may want to file anyway to get your withholdings back.
