Do I have to file taxes if I only worked the last three months in 2007 + made less than $3,000?

Emmy
If you want to get what you paid in taxes back, which only making 3000, you most likely will get it all back.

bddrawson1211
I would file just to get what I paid in back. You DONT have to file, but the way I see it is if you are getting money back, file. Why let them keep it. You know? As for the rebate, you will NOT get a rebate back. You have to make atleast 3000 to get the rebate.

For the person on here that let H&R do your taxes, you will not be getting the rebate, H&R ripped you off. And if they were just doing your taxes for the rebate, they should have charged you $35, not what they did. RIP OFF, that is why I do not like H&R.

Celeste
No, you don't have to file but if you had any federal taxes withheld you need to file to get it back. Plus you may qualify for EIC as well.
As for the tax rebate, if you made less than $3,000 you don't qualify.

Diamond, you should've saved your $171. If you made less than $54,000 you could've filed your return for free. H & R Block is one of the participating free file service.
And if you were just filing to get the rebate, you could've done that for free too. Although, since you made less than $3,000 you don't qualify for the rebate either.
Silly rabbit!

Definately file. If anything was withheld, you would get it back.

No you do not but if you want the tax rebate then you have to file taxes. I made a little under $3,000 and I filed anyway with H&R. It cost me $171.00 to file with them because I had 3 W2's the more W2's you have the more it will cost. H&R Block told me that I did not have to file but if I wanted the $300 rebate then I would need to file. Do it by mail it's free. I got more back with H&R block than Jackson H. and Turbo tax were trying to get me. To get more info got to the IRS website at www.irs.gov

You don't have to file, but if you had any tax withheld or are eligible for earned income credit, you have to file to get itl

It is always better to file especially if any taxes were withheld. You may well be surprised with a refund.

Economic Stimulus Payments Information Center

Updated March 17, 2008

Starting in May, the Treasury will begin sending economic stimulus payments to more than 130 million households. To receive a payment, taxpayers must have a valid Social Security number, $3,000 of income and file a 2007 federal tax return. IRS will take care of the rest. Eligible people will receive up to $600 ($1,200 for married couples), and parents will receive an additional $300 for each eligible child younger than 17. Millions of retirees, disabled veterans and low-wage workers who usually are exempt from filing a tax return must do so this year in order to receive a stimulus payment.

But there are more details to know about and even a calculator to use. Find out more here and visit this page regularly for the latest updates.
