Do I have to pay tax on the rental income on my own house, eventhough I pay rent somewhere else ?
I want to let my house in West England(bought with mortgage) and rent a flat near my work location in East England. As I have only one property, do I have to pay tax on the rental income on my own house, eventhough I pay rent somewhere else ?

I'm afraid income from property is subject to income tax. But the good news is that it is only the net income which you have to pay tax on.

You can deduct expenses such as property maintenance and insurance and also, probably the most important, mortgage interest.

Depending on how long you have owned this house there may not be much tax to pay.

dels replies
short answer Yes . It is income.
