That depends on how much money you earn by the end of the year. I haven't looked at the tax tables for 2008 yet, but since you are a dependent, based on 2007 you will have to file if you earn more than $5350 before taxes are taken out. (The rates for 2008 will be slightly different). This is if you have little (less than $300) or no other money, like savings account interest, etc..etc...which is what they call "unearned income".
However, if you have MORE than $300 worth of unearned income, you will have to file if your job pays you more than $850 by the end of the year. How much you will pay or get back is determined by your income and a variety of other things. You and your mom can go to a tax preparer to help you out with this. |

Yes, any age has to pay taxes if you earned money |

Since you are already on line, just go to IRS.gov and read the IRS form 1040 instructions. It tells you right up front who is required to pay taxes and file a return. Yes, you can be claimed by your Mom and still need to file for yourself. |

It depends on how much you make for the year. If you earn under $5450 in 2008 and the employer takes out social security and medicare and gives you a W-2 at the end of the year, you don't have to file or pay tax, otherwise you do. Your state might require you to file even if you don't make that much. |

You will certainly have taxes withheld, but the total tax will be determined by how much you earn during the year. Your mother is getting an exemption (decrease in tax liability) and if you will be working the rest of the year full time, you will probably get all the tax withheld refunded. |

You may not make enough to have to worry about it. Check with the person who does your moms taxes. They can tell you what would be best for you to do. You to do. You might file and end up getting money back! |

Yes, you have to file for yourself -- more likely than not you will be getting a refund (but that depends on how much you earned and how much taxes were withheld). |

Congrats!! And welcome to grown up life!! Yes, you have to pay state taxes, federal taxes, medicare and social security taxes. Your employer automatically takes the correct amount out of your paycheck and pays to the government. When your mom files for her tax return in 2009 for 2008 work year, and she claims you, that means the government credits her money for raising you. If she claims you, you cannot file for a tax return. If she does not claim you, and you file for a return, the government credits you that money. |

God is in a good mood !

Yup. If you have earned income you have the priviledge of paying income taxes.
Depending on your total annual income, you may not have to pay Federal/State Income taxes. But in the US you will pay FICA regardless of income. |
