Do I have to report my rent / utilities payments to IRS?
This year I'll be filing for the very first time a form 1099. Can I get so type of deduction for my rent payments that I made?

it depends what your getting the 1099 for?
are you working from home? if yes, then yes you can deduct all your household expense up to the percentage of your house u use for the business..

No, there's no deduction for those expenses. Unless you are running a business from your home and can claim a Home Office Deduction there's no benefit at the Federal level. The rules for a HOD are strict. The area must be set aside exclusively for business use and you can only deduct the business portion (usually apportioned according to floor space in use) of the expenses. See IRS Pub 587 for more information: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p587.pdf

A few states have a "renter's credit" that you might be eligible for but there's no such thing at the Federal level.

not that i know of,but i'm not sure

If you have a home office then you can deduct part of your rent, however there are very strict guidelines in order to qualify.

I claim a lot on my home, but I own it and I run my business out of it.

No. Not on federal taxes. Some states have a renter' credit for the state return.

You can deduct expenses that were exclusively for your business.
You are self employed or independent contractor. You will report your income and expenses on schedule C or C-EZ (Form 1040). This income is subject to SE tax at 15.3%. Read: http://taxipay.blogspot.com/2008/04/tax-filing-by-self-employed-sole.html

first of all, you will be receiving a 1099 not filing one. The form you file with your 1040 is a SCH C.

You can deduct a portion of your rent and utilities to offset the self-employment tax, but only if you have a designated area in your home that is used solely for the purpose of your business. You may want to consult a tax-professional (and there are plenty on here that may be willing to help) to make sure you get all the right information together before filing your return.

It depends - do you have a home office in your place of residence? A 1099 indicates you were an independent contractor - no taxes, social security or other fees were withheld from your salary. That makes you totally responsible for all taxes and social security payments based on your income listed on the 1099. See a tax professional, like H&R Block - they can direct you.

Generally no.

If you are trying to deduct a portion of the rent because you worked out of your home, then yes it's possible, but the IRS is very strict and has numerous conditions. Go to www.irs.gov for further info.
